What Have You Done To Your Merc Today?

I washed mine again on Friday. This time not due to Saharan sand; it was the builders two doors down angle grinding away at brickwork.

Then drove to Heathrow on Saturday to pick up my daughter. Which was great and also a handy way to give the Integrated Automotive Android Auto system an extended test.

I worked perfectly. Over that day and the preceding four I used it daily and it only dropped once. I restarted my phone and cleared the AA cache and that was that. TBH I probably only needed to clear the cache - will ask about that.

The novelty of having Google Maps on the dash hasn't worn off. For audio I've mainly been using Spotify. I've also been using BBC Sounds for the Putin podcast (highly recommended) and TuneIn for Talksport (less so but at least I'm getting digital sound quality - before it was AM).

A few maintenance jobs to the S500.

New starter battery - Bosch S4 005
New wheel center badges
Cleaned calipers
Visited COMAND to have AUX and Digital TV enabled

Put the C220 on a breakdown trailer and had it delivered to my local garage. He’s on holiday so back on the trailer heading for the nearest Merc dealer - further explanation will be posted later!

Changed the E class thermostat today , got it last week from Autodoc for £34 delivered . It’s not an MB one , but it’s the same make as the current fitted one .
Straightforward , 3 bolts, easy access . I jacked the car up on the opposite side to the coolant tank so only lost a few teaspoons of coolant . Bolts torqued to 8nm
It probably to an hour in the sun .
Testing the old one , it is jammed open , no movement at all when putting it in boiling water .

Took the day off today to get stuck into 'Project S500'

Started at 8am, with a quick blast to get some Red Bull and to warm the oil up.. then....

1) Car in the air, under trays off
1) Oil change with Mobil-1
2) New Oil filter
3) New air filters

Easy stuff.

Then part 2,

Disconnected the front suspension airlines and replaced both nearside and offside lower control arms. The original MB ones looked tired; whilst the car drove ok, the creaking and squeaking was not in keeping with an S-Class.

It was not plain sailing, I had to use heat to get the outer ball joints off as 15 years of grime had seized them in solid! Fortunately the new arms went in without a hitch.

Tomorrow I am booked in for a full 4 wheel alignment on a hunter machine. Basically the guys are going to loosen the front and back, get the car in a limbo state and then painstaking ensure everything, AND I MEAN EVERYTHING is in perfectly aligned. - I'm quite looking forward to get stuck in with this.

Well Changed a cracked exhaust clamp ,
changed my window switch worn off top coat so bought some replacment switch covers Cheap crap, going to to replace unit easier ,
Polished both exhaust tips look a lot better now ,
then washed car loads of bloody sand dust.

Changed the plugs on my 55. Not quite sure why some places quote 2 hours labour when I done it in less than that.

Just to give it a special treat I gave it a new air freshener too. I spoil my cars 😎

Which vehicle is this? As you mentioned fuel filter, just reminded me, need to change one of the pipes of the fuel filter.
It's a c207 e350 .

The old girl was booked in for her MOT this morning , I was taking her on the way to work but she decided to have a hissy fit and not start! She is still sat on the drive as I'll not be able to sort her out till the weekend. MOT booked for next Monday.

Been working at getting the CLK back on the road, missed using it tbh so a few retro fits along the way whilst getting it road ready will be the order of the day.

We bought our 2016 S205 Premium Plus today.
So we drove it home 😁

What a luxurious car
