What Have You Done To Your Merc Today?

Got the front two wheels/tyres re-balanced. The car was pulling to the side and it didn't do that with my winters. You could see the missing wheel weights/glue.

Had to deal with the tyre place that treat you like a moron, telling me it won't be that, your tracking is off, you need a new tyre, it's warped etc. They were inspecting the car, desperate to find a wheel bearing off or something like that.

I asked them - please, just balance the front two wheels for me... the fitter then returned and said both were off by 0.25. I pay £20 (bit pricey but hey) and drive off: the car drives perfectly in a straight line again...

I feel like good/friendly tyre places are some of the toughest to find in the car world.

Edit: oh, and I also called MB Brentford ('West London') to check where my airbag was... I'd forgotten about it, but it'd been months since the recall and I was waiting for them to call. They - of course - never booked it in for me. Absolute incompetence once again from an MB dealer. At least it wasn't anything important, just two front airbags...

The person on the phone that DID book it in correctly this time was really nice, though.

Hopefully you sealed them with a UV sealant afterwards....now you have sanded all the original UV proofing off......... they will go cloudy twice as quick if you didn't.
I like that headlight design....but from a distance they always look half full of water to my eye!!!

Great... now that's all I can see too!

Changed the black roof trims, the ones that run the full length of the roof, and shed their lacquer finish like a German Shepherd sheds hair, for a pair of excellent quality used ones. Very quick and easy to do, and has improved the aesthetics of the car, a W204, massively.

I agree, they are few and far between in my experience. Both big chains and small independents seem care relatively little with a few exceptions, and those are the one we should give our business too.

Whilst tyre centres with Pirelli branding are just that - independent business with Pirelli logos - there is a Pirelli owned tyre fitting workshop which is owned and operated by Pirelli UK and the service is next level.

I FINALLY booked mine in to get the rear bumper resprayed - looking forward to getting it smartened up. I also need to find my touch-up stick or order a new one so I can get rid of a few chips here and there.

Then, as I'm off to France in it in a few weeks, I've got a list of jobs to tick off.

I've started looking into new batteries as mine is a bit tired - gulp - they've gone up in price.

Over the long weekend, I want to give the over mats a deep clean.

I also need to order some new wiper blades.

Also, need to get the alignment & tyres checked.

And try and find time to get the new door speakers sorted.......

Replaced the engine oil filler cap on the C200 / M271940 engine.
The old cap had become very tight to remove - So much so that I needed a pair of grips - and the plastic cap was disintegrating with the grip.
The old one was marked 111 018 03 02, but there was no MB star.
The replacement was purchased from MB - A000 010 03 01.
Problem solved for £8.89 incl VAT.
Simples !

....so in the end I cleaned all the remaining Saharan sand from the final nooks and crannies - mainly around the door jambs/hinges and the tailgate aperture.

I deep cleaned and pressure-washed the over mats and I cleaned the boot liner.

I gave the cabin a good dust down and vacuumed it throroughly.

Then I cleaned all the black plastic surfaces in the interior.

Then I took the car to the jetwash and gave it a good clean outside.

I'll tackle the paint chips next.

Paint chips done; one on the tailgate and several on the trailing edge of the drivers door. Plus a 3 inch scratch down to the primer on the front n/s door. If I still had a silver I wouldn't have bothered. But these little marks really show on a tanzanite car with a light primer.

I cheated and asked my daughter to do it; she's studying art and had a better hand and better eyesight that me. Plus I got to do some quick driveway weeding whilst she got on with it.

£20 well spent :)

I've just put the mats back in; the interior's looking sharp too.

Just used a waterless car cleaner for the first time........absolutely fantastic result. How the flip does that work?

Hi Londonscottish, where did you buy the touch up stick from?

Great amount of work, bet its nice a gleaming now :thumb:

Also which new speakers have you bought? Thinking of upgrading on my car.

Yes the car looks great now, thanks. I realised that I continually clear the obvious bits like the paint, leather, windows, door cards & dash whilst ignoring the mats and the black plastic panels around the footwells. Doing them and the door hinges properly has really lifted the interior.

Regarding the touch up paint, the type you want has a long thin brush so you can do very fine work - that or you can use an actual painter's brush. The one I have is from MAD and has a long brush - I don't know why they call it a "pen" on the website.

The speakers I'm looking at are Morels. Front doors & tweeter, fitted at Comandonline. They've already fitted a 10 inch sub in the boot which fills out the lower frequencies nicely.

Used the old girl to move some plants and pots from mothers house, will need a clean out now

Great work... and very brave!! I saw Mike Brewer do some once on TV .. its counterintuitive!! was it a kit you used?
It was a cheap eBay kit I used first on the E class (maybe £8-10?) it had been sat in the garage for a couple of years . All the sandpapers were used on a small backing plate on a cordless drill .
For the CLK , I used some sheets of sand papers of different grits (again been in the garage for a couple of years ) . These i just used in small pieces by hand .
The Uv protector was a wipe on liquid that came with the eBay kit , I did both cars with it .

I have since bought a can of spray on UV protector for £10 that I can use next year if things need doing properly  .

Started cleaning up the bodywork a bit, clayed one side of the car so far and the bonnet, lots of chips to touch up though....tried my chips away kit out...def not getting the same results you see on their website! lol :D
