What Have You Done To Your Merc Today?

Gave the euro6 go anywhere Glc 350. Yet another lashing with fallout remover . I bought a clay mit and gave it a good going over with that , followed by a machine polish of super resin polish , then a hand polish with poorboys blue. It's took me several goes at bringing it back up to what I consider good. Think I'm finally there now ,just got to maintain the paint work from now on. When I bought it the paintwork was dire tbh. I thought black cars were bad :). It's now as smooth as a white Darth Vader's Helmut.

I take it the “go anywhere” bit is rubbing your old buddy W1ghty’s nose in it ;).
Car looks great after all that work .

Bought one. Pick it up in a week or so.

Had the four wheel alignment rechecked on another. It had a full set of new boots at a place I’ve never used before. late on Friday afternoon. The alignment was done a little too quickly.

So today I took it to a place I trust - but couldn’t supply the tyres in the right sizes - and asked them to double check and adjust the alignment. They were close but not right. Now they’re right 👌🏻

Picked up my dad's non-ulez compliant E350 and drove it out of London (paying the £12.50 charge for the honour of course), back to Cardiff. Drove past the Concours of Elegance @ Hampton Court. As I was driving the E350 out of last time because of it's Euro 5 status, I followed this ULEZ exempt car, which I thought was pretty ironic on the car's final drive in London...

That same night I decided to take it for a couple of hour drive mid-wales to a client/job and parked next to client's Tesla Model 3 - looks quite at home. Given that it hasn't had a wash in months and the wheels need a refurb, still looking pretty good for an 'old diesel rotbox'. Such an awesome car, only 47,000 miles, full MBSH. Can't wait to give it a full detail.

Craziest bit is, as I was driving up, I noticed that children and the elderly were falling to the floor as I was passing, birds even fell out of the sky! It was nuts.

Thankfully, the Model 3 was behind me and all sentient beings spontaneously reanimated.

Its definitely much better - this is after i spent ages adding a load of sound deadening as well. The trouble is, as i discovered - is that if you remove one noise then the next loudest noise becomes more noticeable. Bit of a slippery slope! Have to say though the tyres are really nice - i wouldn't probably go for them on anything a bit sporty but they suit the E Wagon well. Looking forward to my next Euro trip in a month...
Can I ask which sound deadening you bought. I'm thinking of doing out the rear of my Glc , seems alot of road noise , surface depending of course.

Four new tyres for the S212 - in my never ending quest for quietness I’ve gone for the new Bridgestone Turanza 6 over my normal Goodyear Eagle F1. The Turanza in tests are supposed to be significantly quieter with decent, if not the best wet and dry performance. I figured it’s not like I ever push the limits of traction of the wagon!

Part two of the quietness quest involved scouring the web for S212 rattle cures! It’s not that it rattles much but ive been tracing a couple of irritating noises coming from the rear. I found the silver handle for the boot floor rattled so my little gas soldering iron closed up the gap round the pivot which cured it. I also found one known culprit is the 60 part of the 60/40 rear seat back. Two rattles sorted here. The carpet cover is loose against the metal seat back and can rattle so removing a couple of bolted on attachments I was able to spray in some carpet adhesive which sorted it.

The big, common rattle though comes from inside the seat. There’s a metal bar that can vibrate and rattle against the seat back. If you thump the back of the seat (from inside the boot) you can hear it rattle and “buzz”. I had to prise out the seat cover at the base then insert some foam between the metal bar and seat back. Quite an easy job and seems to have worked so looking forward to the road test!
These are very quiet 68db for my car

Welcome to modern MB ownership.
Like I said , certain tarmacs it's silent ,so not the car . It's just a combination of tyre and road surfaces. I'd like to lessen it a bit. It's £30 so alot cheaper than 2 or possibly 4 tyres @ £750 .

Not decided yet. Maybe a local pub in the village. But now we’ve sat down in front of the fan our appetite to move is waning! 🥵

Had a maintenance detail on one, and picked up another having been away a week for it’s 6-monthly major detail with a deep clean and double protection on the hood, to refresh the water and UV resistance ready for the autumn and winter.

The incredible weather made it a lovely drive home with Mrs D riding shot gun.

Some of the other cars have had their maintenance details last week too, so with the recent relatively long dry spell they’ve stayed clean, so I’ve never had so many clean cars at the same time before. I’m enjoying it whilst it lasts! 😁

Hi , went for a drive to Tewkesbury for a coffee.

The council in their wisdom have made parking in the high street difficult and the only car park was full.

Turned round and drove home.

In an instant ?

Fitted a new n/s wing mirror indicator lens before it gets too hot, easier than I thought or what i've seen on you tube, the scratch marks on the housing were caused by the branch that did for the lens, will tackle that another day.
