What Have You Done To Your Merc Today?

So today when I had hood down I notice that the access covers (chrome look) were yellowing quite badly, just had another look and after some careful scraping I realised that the original plastic protection was still on both the covers, now the plastic has been removed they look promising, still a bit of work to do, but no longer yellowy dull covers in view when the hood is down

Got my winter car out of hibernation a couple of months early to go out in this evening because of the flash floods!

Extreme heat (32•C) to extreme rainfall (16•C) in just 24 hours has seen me back in the winter car sooner than I expected!

Purchased a new wing mirror repeater lens a couple of days ago and been looking on-line on how to fit, all said it was tricky, fiddly locking pin, took me ages. For some reason decided to do it this morning, daft really it's a bit nippy out there but clear.

So..moved mirror down to the limit of travel, little torch to peek inside, flipped the mirror holding pin with lekkie screwdriver, jiggled the mirror away from the bottom 2 holding lugs, removed holding bolt on lens backing plate, removed lens, disconnet cable block. Reassembled new lens in reverse order. tested ok. Looked at so called fiddly locking pin with common sense, realise the pin could be assembled in place before offering up mirror, slight jiggle down and up to get the bottom lugs connect then push top of mirror until click into place, job done, hands cold, green tea still very warm in mug. The scatches on the mirror case are from the hedge that took the lens out, will address that another day.

Did the gearbox reset, see if it feels any different today

If you did the thing described often as a “reset” and involves switching the ignition into position Ii, holding the accelerator down for as long as it takes to sing the chorus from God Save the King, and lastly knock three times on the ceiling and twice on the pipe, then unfortunately it doesn’t actually reset anything.

When you want the car to react more swiftly to your inputs, shift down sooner, and shift up later then all you need to do is (as @spikeymikey suggested) drive it like you stole it. Most people don’t, and so the gearbox adapts to the way you actually drive rather than how you think you drive and softens it’s responses accordingly,

I like to press and hold the minus paddle . Now this really does wake things up, especially that V6 . No need to use the kickdown.

I agree - or “holding left” for those with a traditional centre lever - to select the lowest permissible gear in anticipation of a manoeuvre is much more effective when making maximum progress.

Or pop it in Sport +

Yes , this certainly livens things up. 🤣🤣
Tried it for the first time a couple of days ago on a quiet stretch of private road and was suitably impressed how much difference it made
