What Have You Done To Your Merc Today?

Changed the engine oil and filter as well as the gearbox ATF and filter on the E class .
It was a hot sunny day without much wind , so I thought looking at the weather there may not be many t shirt and shorts days left .
A few pics

I had all the bits in the garage for a while ago . It was a ZF gearbox kit that I picked up for under £20 on AUTODOC in a sale . The ATF was Fuchs ATF 4134 .
Car is now on 129k , the last gearbox change was probably just under 25k miles ago . I just changed the sump ATF , I think I’ll keep the remaining 5L I’ve got in the garage and pick up another cheap gasket/filter kit for a couple of years time .
I already had a cheap transfer pump with attachments made up so that saved some time .
There was some fine grey residue on the magnets but it all looked normal .( The sump picture is after cleaning )
The rubber grommet at the base of the TC self destructed so I’ll need another of them (A2112710180) .
One or two of the under shield connectors on the bodywork are playing up so I’ll have to source some of them as well .

So today when I had hood down I notice that the access covers (chrome look) were yellowing quite badly, just had another look and after some careful scraping I realised that the original plastic protection was still on both the covers, now the plastic has been removed they look promising, still a bit of work to do, but no longer yellowy dull covers in view when the hood is down

Open them up and spray some grease onto the metal sections inside , it really helps the roof section operate more smoothly

Well, started off by going out to fit a rear camera for my dashcam, to compliment the revering camera. threaded the wiring into the boot, attacked the drivers side pillar and top trim. Lost one of the visor screws :wallbash:. Ordered some replacement m6x16 torx screws (stainless)

Put the 56 plate 75,000 mile A Class A170 through the MOT this morning........passed with flying colours....no minors either....as usual. TBH as an ex tester I'd get a bit upset if it failed!! They did say that the AC whine I diagnosed a while back is alternator whine....and quoted £380 (no thanks.....I can get a new one for £110 an although awkward to reach its not that difficult to replace....if it is actually that)......so I now have to get back under and have a better look.

Whisked the family down to Bicester in a big one.

Cruised at 70 mph for most of the way except for the average speed limit section on the M42 near Birmingham where cruise control was set to 50 mph.

Still 22.5 mpg over 185 miles in 4h 40m seemed pretty good considering that there was a fair amount of queuing and very low speed driving dragged the average down.

Washed the girls today as they were both covered in a combination of the Sahara and builders dust.

Every time I wash them, my neighbour will either say , can you do mine next? or you'll make it rain! Do any of you guys get this when washing your cars?

Yep , always get similar comments, especially as my cars clean up well .

Front suspension arms both sides replaced on my E class w213, along with the replacement of a tps wheel sensor.

Including tracking both ends the bill was £927. Quite reasonable I thought. It was of course at an indi !

Yep.
I wash mine in the rain also - that provokes even more comments, mostly along the lines of "What's that complete twonk doing.....?"

On the rare occasion that I wash our touring caravan I try to do it in the rain. Less water to carry, and less chance of drying marks. Smart people wash vehicles in the rain 👌🏼

Absolutely! But I do wash or at least wipe the car over nearly every day. I do like a clean motor, always have, always will. 😎🙂👍

I explain it away as being environmentally aware - using less water etc.
But actually it's because I'm a lazy old Hector.

Washed the van and more importantly cleaned the inside after a weeks plastering. All clean and tidy once again. Tucked away in the garage in hibernation as I’m off for a week. 🥳
