What Have You Done To Your Merc Today?

I love my cars to be clean like that....and in the summer they are...but I cant see the point in winter unless you don't plan to drive it.....one short drive in the current weather and its back to square one. At least we don't get much salt on the roads "daan saaaf".

To a certain extent I agree, about winter. But me personally it's still got to washed in winter too. Especially with the gritting we get oooop Norff 🙄🙂

For me the S classes are not my daily but as the S65 has been used even in bad weather this past few weeks, that's why I let it get it as dirty as it did. I just couldn't leave it any longer that dirty as now it won't come out until the weekend. If I was to post a pic of my every day car, I'd get banned from here, it's that bad 🤣

I have a flurry of cars due an MOT over the next few months and the first was today. Early start but passed with flying colours 👍🏻

Adjusted tyre pressures on most of the cars using the Bosch cable-free pump. which is on charge now so that I can finish off the final few.

Every tyre on every car needed a top up because it was so mild last time I checked and adjusted them, and now the temperature has dropped.
Bobby, please could you tell us how many cars you are talking about, by saying "most".

Only because I want to do some MATHS :D

I’d rather not, but I can say that you’ll be fed up of inflating tyres before the Bosch cordless pump is fed up!

I got mine dirty on the road from Barnard castle to Brough today.

4WD and 350cdi great in the mud and wet, despite R class inertia.Brakes adequate and need to be considered, not relied on not to fade on this road.

Must remember to take bike on that road when it's dry....

I noticed that a CTEK CT5 battery maintainer had an error light illuminated on a car I’m resting for a while. So I tried it on a set of crocodile clips (as the car has hoops), and then again on another car, but each time the red light returned after a while of being hooked up.

I’m waiting to hear back from CTEK regarding a potential repair or replacement. It’s the only CT5 I have as I didn't actually buy this one - CTEK gave it to me - so I can’t return it to the retailer, and I’m not sure whether the five year warranty will apply. Keeping fingers crossed.

Whilst I was messing about with CTEK chargers I thought I’d rotate the other CTEK maintainers to make sure the cars which have been off-charge are in good health too. I also popped CTEKs on the cars we’re using at the moment, to make sure they’re performing as they should.

I read today that at 0 deg-C a battery loses up to 1/3 of its ability to start the engine. Combined with the average car doing short trips and lights, AC, heater and heated seats switched on for most journeys, it’s not surprising that even regularly used cars don’t manage to fully charge the battery.

That's why I keep a Lidl battery condition tester on the battery of the S204 (which lives on the front driveway), visible through the tailgate without having to open the car. If/when it goes red I know from past experience that I need to get the extension lead out with the Sip Chargestar Smart 18 Automatic charger, connect that to the battery and close the tailgate over the extension lead cable so car is locked and alarmed, then leave it at least overnight or longer if possible. I also know that if the indicator light on the monitor is amber the car will start. Easier with the SLK - she's a garage queen, so parked there she's always on a conditioner!!

On this occasion the red light is an error light on the battery conditioner, ie it’s not charging. Status indicators are indeed handy things to have 👍🏻

On the Lidl condition monitor it's showing the battery is below 25% and needs charging. On the S204 it's convenient as the battery is in the boot so I can have it visible through the tailgate window full time.
The SIP charger is a smart one, you start it up and once it's done its magic it switches off. The Lidl conditioner on the SLK has so far been fine (maybe I'm lucky!), keeps the SLK battery fine and takes it back to full even if I've for some reason left her out of her garage for a week before putting her away.

I’ve just transferred the CTEKs to the other cars which are all being used relatively frequently, and aren’t routinely on the maintainers since we moved house.

One of the cars I put on charge yesterday is relatively new to me and it hasn’t been on a CTEK maintainer at all during the few months that I’ve owned it.

Prior to charging it, it had an irritatingly short range when locking or unlocking from the key, but since fully charging it the range is now what I would expect it to be.

It started on the button and there were no other quirks, but interesting to see that the remote key range appears to be one of the first functions affected by battery voltage.

Took mine to the exhaust specialists so they could look at fitting a new back box and quad AMG tips. He was a bit worried about cutting the bumper to take the tips, otherwise he was fine with the plumbing and welding. I have looked at the various diffusers on line, don't fancy the stick on and cable tie approach so I have ordered a genuine C63 lower bumper trim to make the job look properly finished.

Just got the SLK55 back from the MB specialist 😳 all sorted now ,take it for a run to whitby tomorrow 😀

Worked my Vito hard today. 5 trips to the quarry with the trailer and around 11 Ton of type-1 sub base (MOT) taken to current job. Effectless towing it has to be said. 👌
