Took the old jalopy down to Mercedes-Benz World today for the "Ultimate" half day track experience. Such great fun, I'd recommend it to anyone! A bit pricey maybe, but well worth the memories. Probably the only time I'll ever get to spank a £178000 SL63 AMG like I stole it!

I bet "the old jalopy" didn't look in the least bit out of place:cool:

Sounds fantastic 💛

It really was, I'd recommend it to anyone. It's a fantastic facility, and pretty much unrivalled by other manufacturers. We're pretty lucky to be Mercedes fan boys in the UK.
Are they dual controls? Any other car experience type stuff I've ever done have always been so sanitized and too controlled. I totally get why, but being told to shift up at 4k rpm, only use half throttle type thing that I've experience on other experience days has put me off trying this at MB world - sounds like that's not the case at MB world?

No, none of that at all. You have sign a waiver to basically accept that it's your own fault if you die 😂. There were no restrictions at all really, I certainly had nothing imposed on me. The only thing I could gather they didn't like was static revving, which is understandable, and kind of unnecessary really - seeing as you get to do multiple hard launches in race mode with the exhaust valves open anyway! I suppose the instructors might verbally intervene or cut the session short if they feel that you're dangerous, but you're very much in control of the cars yourself.

Sounds perfect - will take a look when planning another visit. It helps that the family love going there also, especially the kids. Skid pan looks a lot of fun too!

The skid pan is a blast yeah. It's interesting learning the different techniques between the RWD C63 and 4WD SL too.

No, to be fair she got a decent bit of interest. I kept seeing people having a nose round when I could view the car park. There was an SLR in the visitors car park too, so that was also a nice contrast to the sea of white A-Class models!
43 looks crisp, bravo!

Got 3x brake pipes replaced @ PCS Horndean then gave to my father.

Got another one dinged by an ****hole in a petrol station

Used the R129 to take BTB Jnr to his prom today. Long-time southern members may remember him as a little toddler at club GTGs - now 6' 1" with a goatee :D

His date had to sit in the back, which wasn't very chivalrous! They didn't want the hood down till just before we arrived in case their hair got messed up :)

Sat sideways perchance? Even at 5'2, my ex-wife had no legroom at all behind me, and barely enough behind anyone else unless they were similarly short.

No we managed to fit her in straight, with her lap belt on :thumb:. You can crank the front passenger seat quite a long way forward ... more of a problem with the driver's seat (because of the steering wheel). It's essentially a 3-seater ... just like a McLaren F1  Of course you're supposed to raise the roll bar when driving with anyone in the back, which reduces the headroom there too!

Years ago we did use to take two kids in the back but the driving position wasn't very comfortable to say the least :D

As an aside, one of the venue stewards directing traffic came over and asked me to bring the SL to their monthly classic car show there next Thursday evening :)

It's only just down the road so if the weather is OK I'll probably pop over and see what's going on. The card he gave me said they welcome all classic cars, bikes and tractors! :D
