Anyone seen any good number plates on cars lately?

ALB 11E on a rolls royce silver ghost in Camberley - first one I've seen on the roads, and very nice it looked too.

When I was at Manchester Uni I kept seeing a big Daimler with ONE1 on it.

One day while I was pulling the barrels off a Triumph Bonneville, behind our hall of residence, it pulled up and the owner got out, we had a chat about motorbikes. I asked about his reg, he said he'd paid nothing for it, a dealer had 'kept it for him' when he bought a new car.

Only later did I find out he was the Vice Chancellor of the University, aka the Duke of Devonshire! The then Duke is no longer with us, but the plate is registered on a Bentley Arnarge, according to Tescos, so probably still in the family.

Davo, are you able to put a rough date on this, as I think some confusion may have crept in.

ONE 1 used to belong to Prof. William Mansfield Cooper, who was vice-chancellor from 1956-1970, and by 1988 it had changed hands and was owned by Gerald Fitzsimons, who was Lord Mayor of Manchester for the 1979/80 term; he also owns/owned UNE 1.

The 11th Duke of Devonshire (Andrew Cavendish, who died in 2004) was the university's chancellor from 1965-1986, and incidentally the 12th Duke, Peregrine Cavendish, is currently chancellor of Derby University.

Very near to where i live, there are 2 plates i like. 1st one is 'boi' and second says 'cobra'. Cobra is on a W204 and lives around the corner so i won't give the exact plate. Anyone from here?
