Best oil extractor?

If you are interested Anderzen.AMG (YouTube) changes the oil on a C55 (like mine) with a vac pump and then drops the plugs off both sides of the saddle sump and discovers 700ml of old oil remains. Neither he or I were surprised at this . I use my vac pump on all of our vehicles except for the C55 because of the saddle sump.

He is a young bloke messing with a C55 for track/street use (manual box etc) and is on a budget and down to earth while on the same time happy to admit he is on a (journey) learning curve.

Between him and Alex at Legitstreecars.com they are pretty much the only USA YT content I watch regarding Mercedes Benz, oh and Hoovies garage he is funny. The rest seem like loud shouty poseurs.

Well you have frightened me enough saying it may get caught. I won't ever use that. if i do do it that way i will get the sealy, thanks for the tip.

My Sealy hand vac pump came with various diameter pipes that are very stiff PVC and you would be very very unlucky to get one stuck in a dipstick tube .I have used it to change oil on hydraulic power packs amongst other things. Never once did I fear the hose getting stuck anywhere.

Just mark the length and don't let it snake into the sump and you'll be fine.

Can happen.
I snagged a plastic pipe taking a sample for analysis. Got it free eventually but the fear of leaving part of it behind or bending what it was snagged on was very real at the time.

The best extractor is the removal of the sump plug . No better way to remove old oil . Without a sump plug then extraction must be done with extraction pump ..I have a 12 volt extractor pump off ebay there is lots to choose from . I change my oil by removing the sump plug, only reason i do this is there is a magnet in my sump plug that i check and clean after each oil change . But if its wet or damp outside then i extract the old oil with the 12volt extraction pump.

An old thread I know, but with the cheap Mannol 20L oil thread and an increase in annual mileage, I need to move to 6 monthly oil changes.

On the basis of all @W1ghty's Pela 'action shots', plus not having to faff around with power and questionable longevity from a proportion of the Lidl and Aldi pumps, I've gone for a Pela 6000.
I found one new but damaged box on Amazon for £38 delivered.

I've only ever done sump plug oil changes, so this is going to be living the dream!

Yes, they can be very useful. I've used a Draper (20 ltr capacity) which can be worked manually, or with a compressor. It was great with my older MBs, the ones with dipsticks. They can take a bit of getting used to,,,you will need to monitor what you get out,,they are not as good as the old-fashioned drain stud, for all its problems. But they do the job with half the mess and dirt. Best of luck with it! Jim.

I've ran 2 cars on that mannol oil for years , it's upto the job.I changed the oil filters on oil change 2. Once you've used the pela you'll appreciate the reasons why.

I was with a mate looking at the oil extractor in Lidl.... what a piece of rubbish. It only claims to move approximately 0.2 l/min at 60 °C... so will be less..... and can only run for half an hour max. So for example on my car with an 8 litre capacity that would be at least 40 mins of pumping....more if they exaggerate it's capability, which they probably do, or if the oil is colder. So in reality, allowing for a short break to let it cool after the half hour, it could take best part of an hour to get the oil out..... about 3 times as long as it takes to jack her up, get the tray off a drain it from the plug! Sure there is the mess and convenience angle... but even so. Needless to say he didn't buy one.... but did get a decent one online.

As long as i can remove the magnetic sump plug i will do . But i do have a 12 volt extractor pump . With my model it is an easy job to do all oil changes from up top , even removing the sump plug .

I used a Lidl one for my first time and it took under 30 mins to take 7 litres out. Took car for a run and then left it for 30 minds so oil warm. Top Tip: Pop the hoses in a sink of hot water first so they get flexible

Why would it need to cool down when it's pumping hot oil ? My wife's Kuga would empty out in 15/20 minutes 6.5 litres . I use mine for diesel and ad blue when needed . It's a great bit of kit .

You sound like one of the "ev deniers" coming up with excuses why something won't work without using one! 🤣🤣🤣

I've used both a small Pela type extractor and a Lidl pump which has lasted 7 years so far. While I can see that a large Pela type pump would work better than the small one I had, I wouldn't go back to a manual pump as the Lidl electric pump puts the oil straight into the waste oil container with less mess and no tedious pumping. I've never timed it but flow rate is not an issue with warm oil and neither type works well with cold oil. If the operational advantages of the electric pump are not enough the Lidl pump is much cheaper.

Never used one.... simply quoting what it says on the box...... which stopped my mate from buying one.

From the website.

Here are some specifications for the Ultimate Speed 12v UOP 12 C1 car oil pump:
