C350e owners club

And that's a very attractive vehicle you've got there! Polar White? I'm expecting my Sport PP Estate in Diamond White (metallic) on 11 Apr.

Thanks! Yes it is polar white - looks great when clean (which I'm doing weekly at the moment) :dk:

I'm sure the diamond white will look great. I very nearly opted for it myself...

So my long awaited c350e arrived a couple of weeks ago. For 700 miles, all was fine. This week I tried to start from fully charged on hybrid mode- slightly surprised to find the petrol engine kicked in. Pulled off but decidedly lumpy throttle response, and nothing whatever from the battery despite it showing (for the first time, incidentally) a 15 mile charge. It's gone off to my local MB to see if they can figure it out... anyone else had issues?

I had this on Saturday, along with the tyre pressure warning saying the sensors were not working. I tried to force it into e mode, but the option wasn't showing on the display. After about a mile the electric kicked in, and I actually got the best distance out of the charge!!!!

touch wood, all seems ok now.

My slight concern regarding mpg is when i do 200 mile trips (mainly motorways) stay overnight then head back (or onto somewhere else for a 150 mile) without charging overnight - is anyone else doing these type of journeys and what does the MPG like with a 70mph cruising speed on motorways?

I have done a couple of long day trips and average about 40mpg (ish.) As a lot of people say, this car is not designed for motorways, and if I were doing a previous job with 3-400 miles a day this is definitely not the car to have.

The reason I chose it is because I might do that type of journey once or twice a month, and my company car mileage will cover it. As well as this, I am saving about £110 a month over what a standard c-class would cost me on BIK.

I was driving a 1.6 Octavia, and overall, even with the poor motorway mileage, I still reckon I am saving bundles.

No idea how the figures would add up if I were doing 1000 miles a week.

i think this type of car is better suited to low-medium milers. I've had mine for 3 weeks now, and with annual leave and a couple of days working from home etc Ive only put about 400 miles on it so far. My overall MPG is at 78.4. The engine only really comes on for about a quarter of my 22 mile commute, or when i give it a shove (to put a smile on my face). Pretty much all of my local mileage is done on electric thanks to my 16 amp Rolec unit. On the way home last Wednesday I managed 99.9 mpg which was very impressive. To be honest though even if i did much higher mileage i'd still be happy to own the car as its such a nice thing both inside and out!

Exactly my thoughts, my week off involved short runs all pretty much done in e mode. For the week I did 200 miles and my petrol went from 32% to 30%. First day back today with a 180 mile round trip did about 29 quids worth of petrol at 36 mpg!

Only just noticed this. Surely a factory mistake? Any other estate owners confirm please?!

A couple more weeks yet before I can tell you if mine has the same feature. So this is the right rear passenger door where the rear wheel arch starts? And the same on the Left? Presumably this is identical on all C Class estates, not special to the 350e. I know they have moved things around a bit under the rear seat and in the boot for the battery but I'd be very surprised if they had touched anything to do with the outer shell. Speculating, but if it turns out to be a risk then Mercedes will have a lot of reasons to fix it.

This place is absolutely jammed, but thanks to the GMEV scheme there's a premium space and a free charge up!

This is one of the great benefits of this car. Good parking space (although most places I go they are a free for all!!!)

After a 7 month wait (ordered at end of July) my car was delivered to the dealer last week and I went to look it over yesterday in the supplying dealers compound. I'm glad I chose Brilliant Blue it looks fantastic. I am becoming a bit concerned having read about the problems some have had with their cars, in particular the charge socket defects and heater booster (whatever that is) faults. I have asked Lookers (the supplying dealer) to ensure that any of these are resolved before they deliver and to upgrade the car for the external temperature display, their response is that they know nothing of any issues, upgrades or problem fixes and assume any re-work will have already been carried out by the factory.

Anyway my car will be delivered to me on the 7th March when I return from holiday - fingers crossed all will be well.

Hi folks

Perhaps this a stupid question, but I can't seem to find a simple answer to it...

What the point in having a dedicated high speed charger? I mean, I work only 3 miles away from home. If I get home, park it outside my garage and plug in it to a standard 13A socket, I appreciate it'll take longer to charge (although I don't know how much longer), but it'll be done before I get in the car the next morning, won't it? Overall cost of the charge would be the same wouldn't it (longer charge at lower current v shorter charge at higher current = same cost?)?

:dk:

Cheers

Oooh... one other thing for those with Burmester. Does it play DVD-A discs? I'd like to fully exploit the 5.1 audio, but can't think what else other than DVD-A discs will have a 5.1 soundtrack.

Forgot to say, I placed my order for a plain white C350e Premium Plus on 13th Jan, and have been told the dealer should get it last week in March. I was expecting it to be a longer wait. Replaces 14 plate AMG E220D Cabrio.

I didn't know there was a high speed charger for the car.
The only reason I had a dedicated charger installed was because I didn't have an accessible socket anywhere near where I wanted to charge the car.

It made sense to pay the £200 to chargemaster opposed to getting a sparky in and putting a plug socket, and then having to remove the cable each time and lock the point!

This is the one thing that I didn't listen to our builder about 3 years ago,

My thoughts exactly but I had the charge point fitted to take advantage of the Grant, for the possible change to a pure EV later and to future proof the house for when we may sell it.

I'll mostly use a 13A socket for slow overnight charging at 8A at the rear of the house. But it'll be nice to have the 16A PodPoint at the front for those moments when I want a quick "fix". The PodPoint would do 32A but this C350e won't take it. The next car might, however.

I went for a 32A tethered point for the following reasons;

  • take advantage of grant while I can and future proof for further lecky cars (unlikely to buy japanese too) - so type 2 socket likely to be used in the future too.
  • easy of use; a tethered point means that the car is more likely to get charged as intended, simply grabbing the trigger and plugging it into the car is easy that the wife might even do it !
  • The 13A plug/brick will only get used when required and can stay clean and in the car the majority of the time.

Battery charge and performance

This morning I thought I'd record a mile by mile view and I'm wondering if I need to talk to Mercedes to get the car checked out.

So with the outside temp at 4c the car charged and preheated it shows a battery at 100% with 12 miles of electric range. Surely by now I should be seeing it closer to the claimed 19 miles?

Then after..

2 miles 80% 9 miles range
3 miles 70% 8 miles range
5 miles 46% 4 miles left
6 miles 33% 1 mile....

So from 100% / 12 miles range to 33% and 1 mile left in just 6 miles does not add up. Driving was good enough to show this Eco rating, so just exactly what is going on folks???

That's exactly what happens to me. Showed 15 miles this morning for the first time. Dropped to 13 within 400 metres! In fairness by coasting at the right time and accelerating very steadily (2 bar max) I managed 11 miles to work.
