C350e owners club

Just booked in my Brilliant Blue C350e saloon to have the rear windows tinted.

Quoted £110 which I think is quite reasonable, just can't decide to go the whole hog and have limo tints or something more mainstream.

Think the car would look awesome with the limo blackness of the tints but think it might be a little dark inside with the black leather.

Do have the pana sunroof though which might lift the gloom.

Decisions decisions!

Any points of view?

I've yet to see the real thing but drove a 220 for a test and decided that privacy windows were not for me on account of the probable effect that they would have on night driving. Never had anything like them before so reckoned I could do without them now. Will also have the sunroof which does have tints. I went for beige interior to lighten/brighten the inside as much as possible.

I've ordered privacy glass with mine. I have it in my Beemer and it does not block out the light and its clear inside looking out.

Hi all, I'm pressing ahead with getting a Rolec installed at home through EV charging solutions.

I've just got an email outlining the different charging units.

16amp type 2 socket version
32amp type 2 socket version
16amp type 1 tethered version
16amp type 2 tethered version
32amp type 1 tethered version
32amp type 2 tethered version

Im struggling to decide between the various versions and what the differences are between them.

Price difference is only £30, ranging from £299 to £330 so cost isn't a concern but wanting something that's future proof.

Is the C350e compatible with all of the above and what have others EV owners gone for?

Thanks

32amp type 2 tethered for me.

When Quoting Jepson, Jules FB helpfully but wrongly changed the capital "A" to lower case thus:

"for me it was £10 extra to have 32a over 16a and an additional £10 for a choice of colours."

Hmm very strange, I did not edit the post but merely hit the quote button...

In that case, my apologies. As you say, very strange indeed! Maybe a moderator up to mischief?

C350e Normal Charging Limitations

I've owned my C350e for 7 months and the maximum charge I've ever achieved is 18miles range. This has dropped off over the past 6 months to 14 miles and Mercedes took my car for four days last week to investigate the issue. They have returned the car with no improvement as they cannot explain why the car could never achieved the specified 20 miles range, neither can they explain why the range has deteriorated to only 14 miles.
Please note that Mercedes have installed a current limit on the charging system as the battery technology cannot support rapid charging, which was incorrectly stated at the point of sale and the handover of the vehicle. The maximum charging capacity is 3.7Kw and the use of a home charging point does not make sense as this would not provide any greater range and may only slightly improve on the domestic 13A charging speed.
Mercedes plug-in hybrids are a huge shortfall from other manufacturers charging capacities and mileage ranges.:fail

C350e - I only wish I could achieve 14 miles - in reality with heating on I am lucky to achieve 10.
I am really glad I went with a tethered charging point as I probably wouldn't bother with getting the cable out and putting it back early on a very cold morning. I have never used the cable in the compartment in the car as I also know I wouldn't be bothered to coil it back up in the wet so it would end up loose in the boot.

Encouraging economy..

Yes you read the photo correct! 346 miles from a half tank of fuel, over 8 days in very cold, at times sub zero temperatures. :thumb:

With problems with my charging socket I parked up last night with 100% charge from using the ICE to charge the battery. Without preheating this morning I started the car and put t in sport mode to keep the engine running still with 100% charge. After spending a couple of minutes scraping the frost off the windows (I hadn't preheated remember) I got in the car to set off and had lost 5% of the battery power!

What's that all about? Is this the heater booster I've heard talk of? Does the car use the battery to heat the cabin or engine up when it starts from cold? How else could I lose 5% of the battery charge whilst the car is stationary with the engine running?

Currently driving a C220d whilst MB try to work out why my 350 won't charge anymore. Haven't heard anything since Thursday, but hopefully will know what's going on soon.
What has been interesting is the contrast between the two models. My wife hit the nail on the head when she got home after driving it one evening and in a concerned voice said, 'I think there's something wrong with the car', in short she has got so used to the torque in the 350 the 220d felt very sluggish.
MPG wise, yes the 220 is more economic on longer runs, but for my 18 mile commute, it cannot touch the 350.
Then there's the serene drive that the electric motor and air suspension provide.
In short, having the 220d has confirmed that I made the right choice, I just wish it was working, especially on these frosty mornings when I can't use pre-heat.

Go for the mainstream tints. With a dark interior, it will look the same as a limo tint when you view the vehicle from outside, but it will not adversely affect your night time/dusk vision in the same way that a limo tint would. Hth

What"s your secret??

Im getting similar range and economy from my 22 mile commute. Usually between 78-90 mpg. Sometimes 99 mpg in milder conditions. I am able to charge at home and can use public chargepoints near the office. I tend to keep it in comfort/hybrid, and then e-mode to make use of whats left in the battery once i leave the motorway at both ends. Battery range with a full charge is usually 13-15 miles. I am assuming this will improve in the warmer weather though.

Hi all,

Just had my new C350e delivered this morning, on a '16' plate :D
Not had a chance to drive it yet as I've been busy with work but hope to get out in it later so I've put it on charge.

Spec:
Tenorite Grey
360 camera
Privacy glass
Black Ash wood
Mercedes Connect Me

I did want the premium pack but unfortunately that pushed the CO2 into the next tax bracket which I didn't want to do as this is a company car.

I also didn't bother installing a "proper" charge point at home as the end quote was £300 which I think is a total con (this is supposedly after the £700 gov grant!). So ended up getting my sparky to install 2 cheapo regular 13A 3 pin sockets outside so I'll just put up with a slightly slower charge...

Anyway, time for a cup of tea and read the inch-thick manual!!!

Congratulations, looks very nice. Now you be careful if you're going to try charging at 13A. The plug/socket may get very hot. Read up on the other thread "anyone considering..."

£300 for a charge point after the £700 grant was about right. The units cost £600-700 and there are usually other things like RCDs or RCBOs. Mine cost £264 VAT inc after grant even though I had already had the wiring installed. And you can charge up at 16A all day long without overheating the plug and socket.

Enjoy

Hi all,

Very nice, is the AMG the same colour?

It will be interesting to see how you feel the performance compares. I followed a C63 down the motorway last night and the noise it made was awesome! (almost as good as the F Type in front of him).

My C63 is in Magnetite Black which is a very dark metallic grey, probably one of my favourite colours I've ever had on a car (you can call me boring if you like!). The noise on the C63 however is very, very far from boring :D

Yes, will be interesting to compare performance, I think the combined torque on the C350e is very similar to the C63 and would presumably be available lower down the rev range. C63 peak torque is at 3900rpm I think.

It's somewhat amusing to see the old school balloon tyres on the 17" wheels on the C350e (they are Hankooks) but I suppose it should make for a supple ride.

Interior wise I like the new C-class, but I don't think I would spec black ash wood trim again, this is a matt finish and I even question if it is wood at all (surely they wouldn't use plastic?!). As a comparison, I have the black ash trim in my C63 which is much nicer (gloss finish & looks like real wood).

It has the boggo sat nav which looks functional enough but I've recently had a BMW 330d courtesy car and I'm afraid the latest iDrive is far superior. Shame I couldn't spec the COMAND as a standalone item but nevermind.

Will try to keep you updated.
