F1 2024

Excellent send off and sign off for Lewis
Good (actual) race helped by some British summer (aka rain) to shake it up.

Do we know what happened to GRs car?

Coolant leak. Engine temp had been gradually climbing in the 10-laps prior to retiring the car.
Presumably retiring the car was the lesser of two evils: it’d they’d let him continue, something could/would have blown. This way they (possibly) won’t have to replace something and risk a grid penalty in a later race?

OR, (very much tongue in cheek) conspiracy theory, there was nothing wrong, but Mercedes wanted to give Lewis a clear run, to prove theywere not favouring George!! 👹👹

Seriously doubt MB would retire a car in order to favour either driver. WCC are worth serious money. It was George that said the temps were going up…

I did say the remark, (which was in response to a couple of wild suggestions that MB were concentrating on George because of Lewis’ decamping to Ferrari), was a tongue in cheek conspiracy theory, and added two ‘devil’ emojis, so I am surprised it was taken seriously. But for the record, I agree with your remarks.

Dare I suggest Max has learned a small lesson? Once Lando’s tyres were nicely up to temp in the early laps he overtook Max and there were zero moves under braking. 🤷‍♂️

No.

I think we just saw the MV racing brain operating differently on that day during that phase of the race. My guess is that the Red Bull strategy from the start assumed the rain would play into their hands if they kept cool heads and tyre management. When Norris passed it was down to Red Bull maximising their tyre options waiting for the rain and thinking about how likely it would be if safety car appeared.

If MV had been defending against Norris in those final 15 laps we would have seen something different.

He's over-aggressive IMO but has both the talent and smarts.

If you think there's going to be a safety car and you have a slightly slower car in race trim on the day then the running behind your competitor is potentially an advantage.

I actually watched a whole F1 race from begging to end . Not sure I can remember the last time I did that.
Ditto & Ditto.

I'm not saying it was all edge-of-the-seat stuff, but it was far from the snore-fest that most races have been since the regulation change that was supposed to deliver us closer racing.

It was almost as exciting as MotoGP ;)

And also risk a safety car if the car breaks down on the circuit and that might affect their other driver's race and benefit other teams.

I dared to ask. 😊

I thought the lady sang the National anthem very well - until the last couple of notes. Apart from ‘because they can’ why do so many sopranos spoil something that’s bad enough anyway by screeching at the end?

But see my sig below…

Brian May is just rude. He did the same to David Coulthard on Sunday. But let’s suppose he has a huge aversions to saying “It’s great to be here, what’s wonderful thing to be part of”, it doesn’t excuse his consistent rudeness in other situations.

I’ve bumped into him at several car events over the years - so he does know about cars, or at least find them interesting - and he’s been universally rude every time. Not one of those times involved speaking about Formula 1 on live TV so his defence doesn’t apply.

The first time I saw him was many years ago at Goodwood Festival of Speed and he was being driven to a hospitality area, and the car had to slow down to stop next to a couple of families waiting to cross. The children waved and he turned his head the opposite way and closed the curtain.

That takes a special kind of person. It’s fair to say that was the least rude that I have encountered him. In my humble opinion his statement just makes the situation worse. If he wants to be rude, just be rude, excuses are not required.

He has in recent years, struck me as being somewhat up himself (and I've been a Queen fan since '74, they were the first band I saw live).

I saw the David Coulthard snub and was less than impressed. There enjoying the perks of celebrity but giving nothing back. If he's in say, a restaurant or any other setting just going about his daily life absolutely his right to privacy is sacrosanct but in a setting that is only available due to celebrity status, behaving like a celebrity and interacting with those who afford him that status is part of the deal.
