Have You Seen Any Interesting Cars On The Road Lately?

Truly beautiful car. 👌🏻
Are the people in the photos your family?
I’ve hankered after an E-type for a while and recently started drifting my Internet searches to the XKs. I’d love a very well looked after but “lived-in” example that I could confidently use every day, both in terms of its mechanical condition but also parking in public car parks.
IMHO, the XK150 would be a poor choice for regular use.

I ran a mk2 reliably in the 90’s, and that’s the saloon equivalent of the XK E.

You’d need to be really into post-war cars to enjoy an XK150 with that huge steering wheel and drum brakes.

Even a series I 3.8 E type is a challenge compared to a series III.

The good news: prices are significantly lower than five years ago and there are plenty of remanufacgured E’s around

The XK150 would definitely be to look at and experience more than drive and the E-type would be far more usable, and even more beautiful to these old eyes at least - just not quite so special or rare.

My eyes and heart say Series 1 E-type but my head and body say Series 3. I had always thought it would be a Roadster - I always prefer canvas to tin - but if I ever pull the trigger on an E-type then it will be tin.

Maybe.

Get your gas sorted and you could probably pay for one in about 3 weeks with the savings
😁

I’ve turned the blooming heating back in this afternoon too, so that’s pushed an E-type even further away. The only thing more expensive than our gas bill would be Mrs D divorcing me for turning the heating off prematurely 😁

Our team manager for works Jaguar racing team back in the 80's ran an E type for many years. He has recently changed it for a very nice 'Pagoda' Mercedes which he feels is just on another level in terms of engineering quality.
Just sayin'....View attachment 139347
You can’t really lose with that pair 💙❤️

Well, Bobby, you know best. Bobby,

but there are other stylish reliable options. Bobby.

The XK150 had disc brakes all round! I think it was the first Jaguar to get them as standard.
Oops, mea culpa.

But my broad point remains: a £100k 1950's design car is quite a stretch for a Bobby used to his arcane yet very spiffy Smart.

A late 1970's SL500 will still be a more usable "classic" that's easier to steer and stop at 21st century speeds, even if it was an Eagle style remanufacture with modern power assisted steering and braking.

I don't know if you have diven a XK 120 or150. You would definately need daily work out and a Gym membership ;)
