Have You Seen Any Interesting Cars On The Road Lately?

The first modern Mulsanne I've seen on the open road. I find them more the modern Roller than the modern Rollers.

A quarter of a million pounds' worth of car for £70k

What kind of garage are they parked in at home, and who feels the need to drive them ?

They look very familiar! The Mulliner line was right outside my office at Bentley Motorsport.
But that doesn't look like Wimbledon...:dk:
What kind of garage are they parked in? A very large one!
What kind of person? A huge range of people, but with one common trait, not short of money.

Not short of money but, for this eight year old car choosing to spend only two thirds of the price of a new S500.

Perhaps just someone not bothered by the CO2 rating?

Is this the Bullet one?

Certainly looks like it:

Isn't it one of the Hertz rent-a-racer ones?

I always fancied a Chimaera 4.5 but bought the R129 instead as a more practical/reliable option. Still toy with the idea from time to time.
I had a friend who had a Chimaera 4.5. He'd always wanted a TVR. I have to say it was truly awful. It had the Lola engine? It sounded ok but the build quality was just shocking. I was actually scared to be in it. The seats seemed to almost force you to submarine under the belts just sitting still. He tried to swap it back with the dealer (Fernhurst the TVR dealer) but they wouldn't take it. He lost quite a bit on it then bought an old CL500! I would like one of the original Tuscans though.

I saw a bright green Dacia 1300 the other day but alas couldnt get a photo. It was a bit like this one below but looked older. Amazingly they were in production from 1969 to 2004 i found out. Over 1.9M of them! I guess they're a copy of the Renault 12?

They bought the kit off Renault, in the same way that Fiat 124s and Morris Oxfords ended up being made in Eastern Europe, India and South America.

If you saw the first Borat movie it was this vehicle (Dacia 1310) that was pulled along by the horse in the village.

We did a motorcycle tour to Romania about 10 or 12 years ago and there were thousands of those R12-badged-as Dacia Duster everywhere in varying states of decay. They were pretty ubiquitous to say the least.

I thought that Renault owned Dacia.
They do now, including the legendary Dacia Duster. Renault bought Dacia off the Romanian government two decades ago. Automobile Dacia - Wikipedia

Dad had a Renault Dauphine, 16 and 12 back in the day. The first two were great: game changers. The 12: not so much.

(And of course Renault is in bed with Nissan with ownership split Nissan 15%, 15% French State, 3% Daimler pension fund (chuckle) & the balance in equity. The "Alliance" covers: Renault, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Infiniti, Dacia, Alpine, Datsun, and even Lada)

"Back in the day," Western corporates couldn't run businesses behind "the Iron curtain," - so the original Renault 12 tooling sale was to the Romanian company - presumably State owned.

So you've got three different commercial models here. The State owned company, such as the Moskvich and Dacia, the protected Indian commercial operation like the Hindustan, and then the fully owned subsidiary such as the VW Beetle line in Mexico. (No post-war South America jokes, please...)

That, sir, is a very handsome thing. Is it a reliable creature, I hear naughty things about RS6 Avant behaviour.

Thanks, Mike.

Up until around 6 months ago it had been pretty bomb proof.
However, It has developed a chain rattle and a slightly glitchy chear change which is a shame.

Young Ringway Les is on the lookout for a replacement engine which economically will work out around the same price as having the existing unit repaired.
He won't part with the car, which still drives well. There aren't many Goodwood Green cars left.

It’s certainly different. I rather like it.
Not keen on barstadised cars I am afraid. I prefer things as they are supposed to be.
