Hello everyone

I am new to this forum, but I have so many question I don't even know where to start.
Well I bought an ML 270 Cdi for my missus and soon as I drove off the next day the coolant light came on with loss of power, and a strange louder hum, what sounds like a hole on the exhaust, but there is none. Of course I checked the coolant level at first which is fine.
Next went online to see if anyone had the same symptoms.
Well there is quite a few out there experiencing the same, but what causing it differs.
I checked all fuses ,the big 100A fuse on the positive terminal ( fine ) even made a direct connection to besure. There is no change. The seat heater switch LEDs just flashing, coolant light still on , no power ( max 3000 RPM )
So I bumped into a post about cleaning EGR valve, done that , NO CHANGE

I know it could be a cause for the coolant light a faulty fan controller, but IS THIS CAN CAUSE THE LOSS OF POWER AS WELL??????
Cleaned Air Flow Sensor, Checked for air leaks. TBHO there is a hissing noise from the left ( driver ) side vacuum transducer after the engine shut off. Is that normal? If I remove the hose what goes to turbo actuator the hissing stops. Any Ideas?
Anyone please????

Hi and welcome.

Rather than chasing your tail trying so solve a number of faults you need to find a local independent with the MB Star computer and get a proper diagnosis. Generic scan tools are really not helpful for faults like these.

Good luck and report back when you have a diagnosis :)

I can't find the exact thread, but this has happened to someone on here before. The things that it could be, are ECU fan fuse, or the maxi fuse by the battery, or there is one more fuse, which I can't think what it is. Have you checked the engine fan fuse?

Either way, you need to check ALL the fuses. This is a very common "multiple issue" scenario. The car is also in limp mode

A hissing or buzzing noise from the transducers after engine off is normal.

loss of power, and a strange louder hum, what sounds like a hole on the exhaust

Could be a blocked cat causing the noise and loss of power.........

Thanks for all the good ideas.

Is the loss of power and the coolant light on related? It happened at the same time.
I will look into a blocked cat.
I checked all fuses what I can find. I am not sure there is a FAN FUSE or if is where is it located?

Problem fixed
I would like to thank to mickeystitch on an older post. Will explain:
I was ready to cut the cat in half but I thought to have a final search again.
I bumped into one saying that in the front fuse box there is hidden 10 amp fuse. Right at the back of the box which is held down with 5 torx screws. I managed to change that and everything is back to normal. Heated seats work, max power from engine, engine coolant light off now.
I would like to advise everyone with the same symptoms start with this fuse and then move on.

Thanks again

Thanks for the useful update, I was aware of this particular fuse and its position that you described, but I didnt know (until now) what it was for.

It's always the same fuse that causes all the issues. I just couldn't remember where it was. Read the same thing from another post a while ago

It's always the same fuse that causes all the issues.

It's not always the same fuse, the square shaped fuse that's bolted to the battery positive pole causes similar symptoms when it blows..

Now you need to find out why it blew.

Yea ............ but WHY :)

To tell you honestly not even curious why it blown. If it does it again probably will look into it. The car is 13 years old so anything can happen. I am just glad this all I had to do. No expensive part etc.
Again thanks for all the good advises and tips. Glad to be a member of this club

I had the same problem with a c200 kompressor, you must check the electronic card that is connected to the fan, sometimes is in the bottom right (seeing the engine) of the radiator and in my case was in the middle of the fan panel , believe my , I had a lot of problems with that little card

Because that piece had voltage troubles and the box that you change that "was the problem" I change it 4 times because the problem was that card

Hello
Thanks for the heads up. Can you tell me exactly what sort of card am I looking for?
How does it look like? Where is it? Is it changeable?
Thanks

I thought you fixed the problem?..

I thought you fixed the problem?..

Problem was fixed once.
It blew again 3 days ago.
Fuse changed again and now ok. So in future if it goes again will have to start a process of elimination to identify culprit. So it would be good to know that card what was mentioned.

I too have been having the same problem and after checking all of the fuses stated above still not been able to resolve it.
Any other ideas
