Motorbike on motorway telling me to stop

Sounds like one of this middle lane militants who's soul purpose of driving is getting really angry about others peoples mistakes.

Ok so maybe you should have moved left but if lane three is clear the biker should have just overtaken and be done.

There is that element of road users who get angry if you don't move left the very moment they want/think you should. Who then spend their time going lane 1, 2, 3 then back to 1 and then 2 etc. Literally spend their time changing lanes. As opposed to finding the balance of returning to the left lane when another lane change isn't imminent!

Either way, biker sounds like a t*t and I doubt anything will happen.

When speed restrictions are in force on motorways or dual carriageways then its illehal to over take anyway, your supposed to stay in lane

When entering a speed restriction on a motorway it tells you by signage that you are to stay in lane, no overtaking Sent from my F5121 using Tapatalk
The only time you have to stay in lane is when clearly instructed to do so. Some people seem to think it means they have to stay in lane for the rest of their journey! Clearly the instruction will never be given before the hard shoulder is opened up as an additional lane. I believe that the stay in lane instruction is only given when approaching lane modifications for roadworks, the instruction only applying to the short specific hazard where all traffic is redirected or the lane widths reduced. The instruction doesn't apply after the hazard has been negotiated.

I don't recall seeing any "no overtaking" signs on motorways except in very exceptional circumstances. With no minimum speed limits on UK roads the scene would be ridiculous if someone needed to (perfectly legally) drive at say 15mph in the inside lane.

I find it fascinating how most people will slow down to below a reduced speed limit on a motorway then back up to 80ish when clear of the lower limit. Have I been getting it wrong all these years and when the limit says 40 I should drive at an indicated 38 instead of keeping around 44 to allow for speedo error and leeway? Neither have I been aware of the law that says I should stay in the lane I was in at the start of the speed reduction, instead of moving to the left lanes with the others who choose to drive at less than the limit.
The world in general has gone bonkers K..!!!!!....Let alone driving do,s and don't on poorly maintained British roads.. for anyone who would like a lesson on how to drive safely on busy fast motorways look at the French and Germans.. more interestingly the French.. no one hogs the outside lane..most indicate well in advance of actually overtaking.. common sense is all that's needed.. I have to say having driven in continental Europe for 28 years when I get back to the UK I am always disappointed by UK Road users manners and moreover the state of our noisy, potholed crappy roads.. god knows what the Dutch,French,Germans etc think when they arrive here.. Cats eyes ?? worn to nothing.. lane markings cant see em in places ??.verges ?? not maintained so muck on rural roads..... average speed camera checks ?? mostly pointless in areas of no work being carried out /undertaken....One last point how do drivers get away with it ?? defective lights.. front/rear mains side lights .. ?? I see them every night .. I wonder if they ever get stopped by the law ??.. MOT failures all.....foxy52

I'm not saying it's always or always not the case but on the M25 and M4 which are my regular motorways, it often says to stay in lane during a reduced speed limit.

Things are getting mixed up here!

The original claim was that overtaking is not allowed, whenever there's a reduced speed limit; now that you must stay in lane, "often".

When a reduced speed limit applies, that just sets the maximum speed.
When there's also a sign saying "keep in lane", then do that.

Keeping in lane and not overtaking are different things! If the "keep in lane" sign is up, and you're in the middle, doing the allowed 50, for example, and a huge truck is crawling uphill at 35 in the left lane, you can "keep in lane" and still overtake. It's only the people behind the truck who can't overtake it.

In fact, if the traffic is at saturation (all lanes are occupied by vehicles moving slowly and already as close together as their speed will allow), then the traffic is moving in queues, and it's OK to pass on either side - you "keep in lane", but legally overtake AND undertake.

I thought that POLITE was a horsey thing.

They best not wear them in Scandinavia as in some parts that does actually mean Police. They'd get done for impersonation...

Saw this guy again today, same time, same Go-pro ;)

I hope you moved into the centre lane just to annoy him again...

A guy on a bike with a high viz & camera and I'd guess the bike was of a very similar style to a cop bike...I can picture it now, along with the warning of a fine being issued. Come on, it only needs one (thus no tango) and we've all met them in one form or another and they all seem to be complete to55ers too.

This , and going by the OP's description , is tantamount to impersonating a police officer , which is a specific offence taken very seriously .

Report him .

Rubbish !

As long as you are complying with the speed limit you can pass slower traffic . *

* Unless there is specific 'no overtaking' signage in place .

Move to Kent. Lane discipline and speed restrictions/limits are for comedic value only. Just trying to get a group of people to drive a straight stretch of 4 lane motorway, whilst all heading in the same direction, proves disastrous nearly every morning. They will crash into one another.

Not what you said in your original post .

As an example , the long term roadworks on the M74/M8 in the Hamilton/Bellshill area , which have been in operation for over a year with 50mph limits enforced by SPECS cameras , have no restrictions with regard to staying in lane nor to overtaking - this is normal .

He was driving along in the centre lane himself haha. What a hypocrite
