My new Toy CLS 55 AMG

Thank you Peter for your positive comments.

What do people think of the replacement grill as I would of preferred a standard OEM one but couldn't justify the expense of a new MB one and couldn't find a second hand AMG one at the time.

OEM grill all the way IMO. After I had the 'Brabus' grill fitted, I saw the error of my ways :)

Love the 19" s, gonna have to get myself some.

So much better properly badged up as well, will measure the wings for you

Cheers Karl, though no hurry regarding the measurements of the wing badges as I might have to get one of the wings painted if it cant be corrected with a detail.

How about getting the centre resonator removed? Had mine removed last week, didnt cost much. Videos in my thread if you haven't seen them.

Mine appears to have had the CATs cut open and the guts removed, so has quite a nice burble, if I take anything more out it might be to loud or drone at the moment its quite nice though I might have to look at putting the upper CATs back in if it fails the emissions.

Sounds like it had a hard life in the past, good to see its getting TLC now :)

Re: tints, exact opposite of mine, I have rear window done but nothing else (previous owner)

Thought about wrapping the rear diffusor? Easy mod, pics on my thread if interested.

The one you had first was the original painted black, could you not just paint it silver again...or maybe it's just Plastikote and would peel off? Don't mind the one you got on it now though as, personally, I think mods should look like something the factory would've done and that is factory style albeit from a newer generation.

Love the 'new' wheels but then they are the same as mine :)

The fact the grill was done in the same vein as the later models was why I chose the replacement grill.
I do intend to try to clean up the old grill as the paint was coming off of it slightly so I will get it high pressure water blasted/steam cleaned and fingers crossed the paint should come off, though I may have too replace the centre chrome star as the paint seems to have adhered properly to that.

You know Andy, for reasons I can't explain, I completely missed this thread :dk:.

CLS's are ace :thumb:.

I did the same with a plate, buying a xx63 AMG plate for mine - they are too good to miss .

Very well done :thumb:.

The wheels are great BTW.

I never thought I would buy a private plate, but this one was just to good too miss my initial's and 55 AMG on a 55 AMG, and in the scheme of things wasn't that expensive either, it was a no brainer :thumb:

I want KE 55 CLS but its not available or on another car :(

Yep seen that, can't justify a grand on a plate, KE55 CLS 'should' be only £200 :)

It looks fine, I'm sure an OEM one will pop up.

The way I looked at it and I take onboard regarding what value you put on it, is that when you come to sell it it will always be worth around the same value.
I never bought one till now as like you I never felt the expense was justified, but having recently sold some shares, and buying the car at the price I did I had some cash left over from my "Car" fund so thought sod it, and to be honest I have no regrets at all which I thought I would.

Only just seen this thread!

Car looks fantastic Andy, I love the CLS and even more so in black.

I'd go with an OEM grille to be honest, the one you have now looks good but there's just something about aftermarket grilles I don't like.

How much were you quoted from the main dealer for a grille, just out of interest?

Cheers, as you I was only ever going to get a black CLS as I really don,t like silver as a colour for a car, never have done.
Never got a quote from the stealer, but I read somewhere it was in the region of £400 without the chrome star which is a separete item, but that was never going to be on the cards when I could get this one for £100. While this new one is one there it will give me the opportunity to clean up my old original one, then I can have the best of both worlds.

How much were your 19"s, (PM me if you dont want to say publicly) - They do look good :D

I bought them a forum member on here, with good premium tyres though I think that the tyre profile is wrong for the CLS on one axle which he did tell me about as they were on an E55.
I was looking around for a while and a set of these wheels seem to fetch very good money.
I nearly bought a set off of E-bay for £1200 with good premium brand tyres, but I think they were a slightly newer variation of these.
With tyres you will be paying anything from £800 for a set that hasnt had any welding done to them.
I did consider buying individual wheels as there seems to be quite a few odd wheels but these vary between £125-250 without tyres depending on condition.
I did find someone that has hundreds of all types of MB wheels alloy and steel all on PC record, if you buy from him they will be refurbed if they have ever been welded he tells you and he can supply tyres new or runners I believe and he will take your wheels in PX.
I phoned him with the pt. no.s I wanted and he was able to tell me there and then which ones he had and didnt have.
If you are interested I will PM you his mobile number and e-mail address.
