Whats wrong with VBH?

How long have you got?

10years ago she was ok to look at.

Now...........

And I really would not want to attend somewhere she would be doing an after dinner talk..

Nothing against her personnally. She is not a bad person, just not entertaining or interesting.

I would let her have a go in the car when it comes however.

Reading all of your posts i would say that one thing for sure is that we all would like to get together somewhere. For me i think the best way forward is to find out how many people are interested including partners, along with there location. With all this information you can find the central location to all the people that want to come and not the centre of the country. As others have said we have all seen cars before so if you have to travel 300+ miles then it may be cheaper to go via air and leave the car. Those passing or willing could pick up and bring. would take some work but it could work. If there is a stay over for all that had to be paid up front to the hotel less people would drop out and things shouldn't go wrong. If they do there could always be a post (guess who wasn't there). I did say about a christmas party but prices are increased and the weather is cold so maybe a summer thing would be better but i think we have missed that for this year so maybe an early chistmas party this year and a summer one from then on would be better. With regards to a speaker forget the expence and go for a comedian. my bank invited me out for a meal and talk about how best to spend some money about 6 months ago and they put on a comedian it was such a laugh we were all buzzing. Save our money and do somthing funny. If we can all get together and do what we say we will, It is do-able and each year after will be easier.

get sean bean to talk... herd he knocks about in a clapped 1998 c280 with a failed maf and rust in each arch.... no ****

forgive me for this, but I am not convinced that we have seen all members cars, and it maybe that this event is the one where some come who have not been to a GTG before. This would make it ashame for cars not to be there, which is, after all, why we are members of this forum.

Its the cars that brings us together.

And although I understand a comedian route, we are not going on a company outing, nor a industry conference. Both of which want you to let your hair down after a day, or week of whatever mind numbing bores you have had to put up with.

The MBClub annual gathering is all about getting us Bores together so we can enjoy our boring cars. I would certainly suggest we go with someone who shares either an interest in Mercedes, or is car related in someway.

Sir Stirling Moss might tell you some good stories about his Mercedes days in the 50's/60's etc. Richard Noble might tell some good stories about speed and the Bloodhound project. Any of the TopGear team would be able to talk about cars and why they are enthusiastic about them. (I have had Breakfast with Tiff, and nice enough tho he is, you are only going to hear about him.)

Sportsmen tell you stories written by others that are either amusing or based on confidence/inspirational themes. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but its not an appealing reason to want to go. I don't want to hear Linford tell me how it felt to run a 9.98. Or how Andy Murray dedicaed his life to hitting a ball about.

I would want to see someone who appreciates the way in which have all come together, not because we have been paid to go, or sent as part of a team building experience, but because we just can.

Imagine having the meeting at MBWorld, and having the MB cheif designer come and give a talk about cars. (could be in the afternoon) and we all get to look at our cars and see what he was talking about, and share in our, and possibly his passion, before having a proper meal, some drinks, and bed, or bid farewell to those who are doing a day trip. Summer, could ba BBQ with the cars in the background.

That would seem to be the point of being a member of the Mercedes Benz club, and attending the annual GTG.

That's where I am coming from. James May would probably be encouraged to bring his Bentley, which he could bore us all with if it was at MBWorld.

Thats just my view.

all IMO... :D

i think the meet would have to be central in the UK. alienating people from the south by having it north of london means you also alienate people from the north. stick it centrally (that i guess would be just south of yorkshire) and if people are close then well done to them, otherwise people will just need to travel, which i would happily do for a big-ish event.

i think spending lots of money on a speaker etc is something that maybe should be considered for future years. its quite ambitous. in my experience of the scottish meets and viewing other threads on meets, almost half will drop out by the date of the meet, many at the very last moment. if you are looking at £100+ petrol, £80 on accomodation, its an expensive outing just for a meet, so extra costs ontop to pay for a speaker etc is going to hurt numbers.

any new(ish) members who say they will go, probably wont and cant be relied on (of course there are exceptions!).

as its the cars that bring us all together i see litte point in members having to fly down etc without their cars....... looking around peoples cars etc is half the excitement of a meet.

i also agree it needs to be quite a few months in advance - this xmas at the very earliest, otherwise i think it will turn out to be about as popular as other meets that are dotted around the country.

i think it needs to be spread over two days to make it worth the trip for the long distance people. saturday peple will drive up and meet around 4pm or something, meet up, a meal/drinks in the evening, stay at accomodation. next morning we do some sort of event, like MB world, go to a car show, theme park, or whatever, have some lunch and people can then get on their way.

I want to revive this as i want something to come out of it before the summer really ends and we start hitting horrible weather!

So shall i start a poll on a location? :)

not sure about dinner & dance. i know my wife wouldnt want to come as she thinks the forum and general "enthusiasum about mercs" is sad :wallbash:

Mine too, when she knows I'm on here she says - you're not on MBClub again are you :o

I think you are probably a little late to begin organising something on this scale so late in the year.

Maybe, it's time to start planning something for next year?

Stanford Hall is a good central location and they have lots of experience in running car club related events.

A fair few marques have their annual meets there and it is a stunning location.

For us, an event like this would be far more fun as a day/weekend out with a lot of cars, a barbeque (or several barbeques depending on numbers) and just sitting around chatting to other enthusiasts. No real need for a guest speaker, certainly no need for a 'black tie' dinner or a 'dance' just a chilled event in a decent location

The centre of the UK is actually Wakefield in West Yorkshire. So I guess central would be a 20 - 25 mile radius of that?

That may be the case geographically speaking but not by population:)

What about a meet at some sort of summer/county car show you know where all the owners clubs turn up, so loads of rotten (mb:D) classics to look at.

Just suggesting the idea as probably would be free to get in to members showing their car, toilets, food etc etc.

Ps wheres wakefield?

Lynall

Wakefield is on the border of West and South Yorkshire.....

Lets get something organised! Definately have the cars there i love to see what other people have and how the cars have kept...

I have very good contacts in the 'celeb turn up at event and look good' business, so depending on your preference: serious, likes engines etc, or; not serious, just looks great in a small item of clothing, let me know.

Be warned though, the former can be expensive; the latter can be a question of taste........... and expensive.

Does anyone remember when I got Brabus to come? and what they gave demonstrations in?
