The EV fact thread

What's that? Thou must not win a Trophy!
Poor Harry, went to Bayern to win a Trophy and they've had the worst season for about 10 years. 🙄 Not an April fool, true. Doesn't bode well for the Euros. He's jinxed. 🤔 Really hope I'm wrong though. 🙂
Here's the content of that article I mentioned as possibly being an April Fool

According to this associated press piece done back in late November 2023 electric vehicles have proved far less reliable , on average, than gasoline powered cars, trucks and SUV's.

See below for the survey by Consumer Reports - an independent non profit organization in the USA.

To quote Vic Meldrew, I Don't believe it. 🙄

This is the actual article, for those who prefer to go to the source:

The lesson is that it paid-off listening to statistics lessons in class all those years ago... :D

just Google 'Variance' and 'Average Standard Deviation' for further information ;)

And the other lesson is to never buy a car based on 'average' figures, instead you should consider specifically the statistics for your model of choice. For example:

'...it’s vital to consider the reliability score of any model before buying. “PHEVs as a class are unreliable, but the Toyota RAV4 Prime plug-in hybrid is one of the most reliable models in our survey this year." '

Closer to home, I am gratified that the reliability of my Hyunday IONIQ 5 is being offset by the panel gap issues of early Teslas :)

Hard to believe that EV's are more unreliable than the dreadfully unreliable ICE offerings (cough Ingenium) exported by a company like Jaguar Land Rover? Takes something to 'beat' that particular power train i agree.

As per my post above, 'EVs' are far from being a homogeneous group. Simply choose a reliable model, if you're concerned about reliability.

Concerns regarding 'reliability', 'range', 'charging', 'cost of electricity', and many other things, are often raised by those who don't actually have an EV, and vowed to never have one, either... make of it what you will.
I suppose the consumerreports.org car reliability report must be the wrong type of EV owners satisfaction survey then.

On the contrary, I'm sure that it's spot on, and if I was in the market for a new EV, I'd certainly want to read the full report so that I can see what's the reliability of the particular EV that I intend to buy.

The average reliability across all EV marques and models, however, is good stuff for making small talk, but it would be irrelevant for my buying decision.

With the huge influx of people on the Island over the Easter break, I’m genuinely intrigued by the number of new or nearly new ICE vehicles that I’ve seen, and in particular quite a few newish large diesel SUV’s. Any new/newish EV’s I’ve seen seem to be almost all large KIA SUV’s.

They said "Multi"
While we're on it - as you knew about these things, "back in the day" - how did they actually make them?

Did they send plain colours down the line and then switch doors, bonnets and boots?

Or did the over-paint with the Harlequin colours?

(I really must get out more)
