The king is dead, long live the king!

Thanks for keeping the thread going, I am enjoying the interest and hope that my experience assists anyone similarly going through this exciting process!

I'll take some pics of the back seats and the Becker Map Pilot in action (not back seat action!); there's a couple of very helpful vids on You Tube too (again not back seat action!).

In the meantime, check out my earlier post about the pain of 'lack' of Comand on page 1 of the thread.

On the same afternoon of collecting brochure I ended up buying a 125 Edition of this car in white, same heated seats, panoramic and auto spec but which came with Comand (free of charge on 125 Edition); I changed my mind the next day to go with my silver one as it was in fact £8k cheaper for a 6 month old car so you can see why I'd live without Comand!

Anyway, and I'm not just saying this to make myself feel better, but I cannot see what real benefits Comand can bring as a £2k option over and above standard car fitted with the Becker Map Pilot. My MP3 player plugs in the USB and I get all tracks and albums listed on the screen as I do with the Sat Nav of the BMP (and in the instrument binnacle) which is also voice activated! All telephone contacts and functions are simply bluetoothed to the screen and binnacle too (but not voice activated)

The car I test drove had Comand and I recall the screen was just slightly larger (not that it needs to be as it could be deemed distracting enough); the other benefits of Comand is that it has a hard drive so you can download whatever onto it so you arent inconvenienced by having to transport your MP3 player in the massive centre armrest unit. If you want to pay Mr Vodafone another £40 per month, with Comand you can insert a SIM card and surf the interweb! (presumably only when car is stationary)

Sure, if its free take the Comand but not having it is no-way near the 'hairshirt' that it used to be before this new gen was available. For sure, the set up I have (the standard audio, bluetooth, with BMP) is way superior to the full Comand I enjoyed in my C32 AMG Estate. If I were speccing a new car, I'd use the £2k Comand cost on other luxuries, no question about it.

BTW, before buying this car I test drove an 11 month old VW Golf GTI (210bhp) with DSG; 3dr, red, , telephone dial wheels - what a great car. Mrs AMGry Man was not so keen, her and the 2 children in the 'back of a van' (privacy glass) The prices the stealers (yep Listers) quoted were mental; monthly payments on purchase plan were £458! I told them that I could buy a new E Coupe for less per month and duly left them to it....

A very Happy New Year to the friendly MB Club community!

Beautiful car!! Really liking the new C Coupe, the more I see it!
Way, way better than the C sport coupe I had a few years back! :)

FAO: AMGry Man, I notice you've added a little signature. How about this one? -

Hi AJA,

Have changed my 250 CDI Coupe after a troubled 12 months (and a wrangle with MB culminating in a Buy Back) for an Obsidian 250 CGI Coupe! If I post a couple of pics, would you kindly prepare me another signature? can' wait for dry weather so I can Autoglym supergloss the black bodywork!

That black one looks very nice indeed!

So, what happened with the King I?

Unfortunately it has a couple of issues; aside from the pan roof failing and the DAB radio being replaced 3 times, the Eco Start-Stop, on occassion tried to kick-in even when it was deactivated, often putting me in a 'hesitation' situation involuntarily. Problem is, I could not replicate the conditions under which this occurred so the MB technicians could not experience it and software updates failed to rectify.

But worst of all I was getting water ingress into the cabin to the extent the rear near-side footwell was completely sodden; not really what I expected from my £40k car. Anyway, to cut a long-story short, following a strategically addressed letter to MB Milton Keynes, MB Retail in Solihull bought the 14k miles 2011 car back, fiddled the numbers and I am now in the black petrol car, a 2012 car, 11k miles with pan roof, Comand, Harmonn Kardon (12 speakers!) and Dynamic Handling. Same monthly cost under the MB finance scheme, lower FFV so I am quite happy!

Although this morning I saw another iridium silver Coupe with pan roof and it looked damned good and felt some pangs....

I see. Good result in the end! So, how does the 250CGI compare with the CDI?

Daily torturous start-stop commute in CGI is 22-23mpg, motorway (90ish) returns 32mpg realistically, with an overall of 30mpg. This compares to 24-26mpg and 38mpg with an overall 30.8mpg respectively in the CDI. Most of my driving is urban so couldn't really reap the full rewards the CDI could offer

Was getting brave with the power of the CDI but am still tippy-toeing a bit in the CGI until I find my feet. You have to work the petrol car harder for sure but overall it's far more refined than the diesel (the noise was pretty bad at low speed) but CGI is equally as quick when pressed (am loving the 'blip' decelerating on the CGI when driving hard). Must say, the CDI is a fast car but I really could not read the torque at all well; I unexpectedly lost the back end on the CDI more times in 1 yr than I did in 5 yrs of C32 AMG Estate ownership and I drove that like I'd stolen it!

MB really should make a C350CDI Coupe; think that would be a top seller but am sure the E Coupe would take a hit

Pity the poor sucker who ends up with the silver one. Mercedes Approved Used Sir, of course.

I agree; I checked earlier and it's on the Mercedes Approved website 'awaiting photos' at the price they bought it back for (so shows they were genuinely interested in my satisfaction rather than profitting twice from me I guess)

In fairness the Service Centre in Solihull always do a good job so if there's an unplugged manufacturing hole to be found, am sure they will find it! before I'd had enough, they wanted to strip the carpets out to dry for 4 days which is another reason I wanted to end the relationship with the CDI

Mine is going in for the rear speaker cover vibration a week Friday so I'll find out
