Finished up a job, packed up my tool kit and walked out into a fairly public car park to find some oik trying to pinch the spare of the sportX. He was back in his car and off by the time I realised what was going on.

Luckily he didnt get the wheel as it wont come out without jacking the van up - lots of weight in the back and a witter tow bar in the way. But he has sliced through the retaining cable.

Anybody know of any security devices that may deter sticky fingers?

Might get a cover made up over the cable and winch.

Grrrr.

Not wanting to make you paranoid but I have known people who had the carriage frame cut also, very easy nowadays with battery operated grinders. I haven't looked for security devices to help with this but I would imagine sheet steel welded to the frame which entirely covers the wheel and cable would be strong and secure but heavy….how about installing a secondary lock? Maybe a plate with a threaded rod from the underside of the wheel into the van to act as a lock with the cable acting as the winch only? Being inside the wheel, they couldn't get to the rod and would destroy the wheel trying to get the plate off so would they bother?
