<rolls over and pulls "doo-vay" up round neck and snuggles down for the evening>

why did they stop you you may ask yourself for only 5mph, well thats because you have a car, are a law abiding citizen (except for the haneous crime of doing 5mph too much) and obviously have money so another crime solved no doubt and a few quid in the coffers to spend on speed cameras to hide in bushes on blind bends while chavs spank up and down peopels road with no licence ect but there is no point catching them as they dont have any money

45 in a 40 zone does seem a bit harsh...

It could always be that the speed was 48mph, but the force guidance was to offer a training course at that speed or to report for summons. But the Officer went for the lower alternative. Despite it being a dangerous road.

I think its fair to say "you'd have to have been there to know".

:D

The offence is not producing it at the roadside when requested - not at the police station, and the requirement is when being prosecuted for a motoring offence that is endorsable (i.e carries points) then the driver's licence must be surrendered at the roadside or within 7 days or they commit the absolute offence of failing to produce a driving licence.

It's not outdated - the licence (both parts if applicable) need to be submitted for endorsing - the licence needs to be checked at the roadside to see if the driver is eligible to be dealt with by fixed-penalty (less than 9 points) or they go straight to court. Without passing go :D .

it is outdated .you do not need to do a roadside check to check if someone has 9pts or less on his licence do you?
why surrender at a station? so they can see our face on it? or what exactly? you cannot exactly endorse a photocard can you? easier to just tell the culprit to post his counterpart to DVLA and will get an endorsed one back.
If he does not then you can chase him for offences, much like tax renewal.
police can see if a driver is disqualified without looking at his licence. why can they not see the number of points on his licence then?

Another case of making the driving experience as uncomfortable as possible

You need to produce at a station if you cannot produce it at the roadside, which most of us cannot.

repeat what is done with the surrendered photocard licence, that cannot be done without it? i see the need for the counterpart, but why the other?

I've read this thread with a mediocre intrest, felt I had to have my 'go' tho :p

Try 32.7 mph in a temporary 30, usually 50 mph zone by a freaking camera van, now thats harsh. And not being able to get on to a speed awareness course (still £60 but no points) because they reckoned I may have just drifted over the temporary limit

Anyhoo, arguably, one of the most useful features I've found with my new (to me) motor, is the ease of flicking the 'cruise' on usually at 1 or 2 mph above the 30,40,50 limits, just to allow for speedo error. Found it really useful through those feckin average speed camera scenarios.

End of the day, it's YOU with the right foot :p

I use the cruise very often on motorways etc.

In built-up areas the speedtronic function is more convenient though, especially in start/stop traffic. I set the limiter to the speed limit and then don't have to worry at all about straying over that, which allows full concentration on what is going on around you on the road. :)

was this in one of those work areas with no workmen?

Certainly was fella, dual carriageway, cones to the side, no work carried out there for a few weeks, but the temporary speed limit still in force

Aint got the speedtronic gizmo (I don't think) poverty spec you see :D But you're right about the concentration aspect . . . Is that not what we should be all doing regardless ;)

Don't get me wrong, he odd bit of swiftness can be enjoyed under the right conditions

Mind you, this was a year ago, I suppose I should have moaned about it then

No, we didn't moan about such things then, it's only recently that the average age appears to have dropped, and we can no longer accept responsibility for our actions.
Oh, well as peeps grow older maybe we'll get some sensibility back here.

Anyone seen the bucket and spade out of the sand pit..??

Are you sure? On a 2005 e-class? Surely speedtronic comes as standard? Where is Glojo when you need him? :D

If you have speedtronic, then you switch between cruise and speedtronic mode by pressing the stalk (arrow 5 in the image below) and a led comes on in the stalk when speedtronic is activated:

On my s-class, the speedometer in the cluster lights up correspondingly for both speedtronic and cruise control.

No need to press the stalk in for CC, just use the UP/Down selection, press in for Limiter function.

Oh, that speedtronic :o :o

Everyday's a schoolday :p

I just thought by the 'LIM' legend, it was just called a limiter :o One day, maybe one day, I will read the handbook

I must have the only S class in the universe that does not have cruise control. Do you think it was an expensive option to remove it? :D :D

What chassis is it? I remember it was an option on the W126, but I thought CC was standard on the W140.

So, at risk of being a pain in the arris. You say you can switch between a set cruise speed and a set speedtronic (new gadget I've, ok you've found for me, will be using the name a lot :D ) speed? Without changing either? . . . Don't worry bout it, just being lazy and didn't want to go outside in the rain to get the book :D :D

On my W202 you have to dial up a new speedtronic limit every time you switch to it but the tempomatic (Cruise... Well, someone started getting technical!) will remember the speed if the engine's not been turned off and on again since. Just pull it towards you to resume the previous speed.

I take back what I said earlier, everyday isn't a school day, it's a school day with homework, all be it with loads of practical experiments

I'm gonna have to get me heed round all the "W this and W that" malarky too, not to mention the xxx.xxx caper. Hell am I glad I'm off work 4 days a week :D
