What Have You Done To Your Merc Today?

The S212 conveyed us in serene comfort as we toiled our way from Guildford to Framlingham in Suffolk for a week of Country Living.. Traffic was hideous all the way. I used the Westfalia tow bar rack for the bikes - not used it in ages. It really is a top piece of kit. Going to the Framlingham Country Show tomorrow, where there is falconry, wrestling and chain saw action! I’m also planning on having me a cheeky burger!

Serviced the A class W169...all simple straight forward stuff that 99 percent of people could manage. But who ever signed off the spark plug position needs a very good kicking!

Changed Camshaft position sensors (A2769051000) x4
Had a little idle float 500-550-600ish when standstill in traffic or just started the car- did not relate to hot or cold start (parked or in gear with break applied) - no errors stored, thought it could be down to a tune then, as nothing else was affected.
^ this was not the reason for changing the sensors, just wanted to do some preventative maintenance, having found out that they could start leaking oil into the wiring which could potentially get to ECU.

luckily caught it, 3 out of 4 sensors were leaking a bit of oil into the connector/wiring. Cleaned up and swapped out all 4 this afternoon and as a positive bonus the idle issue has also gone away. Car runs much smoother and linear :)
Will also be swapping magnets/solenoids (just waiting for tools)

I guess this could be helpful to someone experiencing same idle "issue" with no error codes.

Engine: m157

Drove without using much /any turbo trying to get the eco screen to turn all green. Managed 37mpg over a 14 mile trip on 30mph roads. I'll have that down to 16 mpg tomorrow, trip out to Northumberland. :)

Cleaned out most of the water drains then went round lubing all the hinges in the boot, engine bay inc bonnet catches and doors, used WD40 White Lithium grease

I treated mine to an overnight fumigation with this stuff. Smell of chlorine now :)

Edit; the pic didn't work - it's Airvidox. It releases Chlorine Dioxide which supposedly kills most odours.

I wonder how this would work if you turn the engine on and recirculate the aircon for a bit… like with an ozone machine. Or, I might just buy an ozone machine…

Nothing at all today. Waiting for my family to get themselves into gear.

Just tyre shopping. Unfortunately Pirelli don’t make matching tyres in the right sizes for the front and rear axle, and it seems other premium manufacturers tend not to too.

It's a two stage process;

1 First you leave it the car for 8 hours with the windows closed.
2. Then you do 30 mins with the engine on and the a/c set to recirculate.

As I said in another post, the car now has a whiff of swimming pool about it but that's supposed to fade away in a few days.

Must try and fnnd my bottle of Gliptone - that would finish the job nicely.

That’s cool, thanks. The ozone machine smells like that too so I assume it’s basically doing the same thing!
