Why did you decide to clean/replace it prematurely?
I treated mine to an overnight fumigation with this stuff. Smell of chlorine now
Edit; the pic didn't work - it's Airvidox. It releases Chlorine Dioxide which supposedly kills most odours.

I wonder how this would work if you turn the engine on and recirculate the aircon for a bit… like with an ozone machine. Or, I might just buy an ozone machine…
Poor thing may actually be able to breathe now.Finished the service on the S204 by changing the air filter today.
I don't think I've seen one in worse condition than the one I took out.
It cannot have been changed in years!
Maybe I'll see a little increase in mpg now.

It's a two stage process;
1 First you leave it the car for 8 hours with the windows closed.
2. Then you do 30 mins with the engine on and the a/c set to recirculate.
As I said in another post, the car now has a whiff of swimming pool about it but that's supposed to fade away in a few days.
Must try and fnnd my bottle of Gliptone - that would finish the job nicely.
Think I'd use a sanitizer bomb after then you could have a nice smell inside 6 x Granville Car Air Con Cleaner Odour Bomb Purifier Air Conditioning Freshener | eBayIt's a two stage process;
