E500 S212 in Silver!

Yes, it was. I had a socially distanced drinks with another car holic the previous night and we'd spoken about driving trips this summer, so I just idly checked autotrader over coffee. Although I can get my two bikes into my black E500 saloon if I'm just going to the coast or the Forest, bikes need to go on the roof if I'm taking all the holiday kit as well.

The bikes-in-car-thing is handy when I'm doing a day trip with three bikes or fewer. Remove wheels, drop saddles and in they go.

Anyway, it's lunchtime.

Can we have an update please? LOL.
 
Excellent skills there. Similar timescales to me; I called on the first day of the listing, jumped on a train the next morning and had it bought by lunchtime.
Mine was also spotted, purchased and collected inside a week; would have been sooner but it was not fully prep’d yet when I called! The seller had it serviced and replaced tyres and did some brake work so needed a couple of days for that.

I don’t think most sellers quite realise what they have with these (to our advantage as buyers!) and often underprice them a touch. The only ones that stuck around for a few weeks were The Brown One (which was asking £18k) and a silver one that was low spec and had a similar hefty price.
 
Yes, I think that this one was a touch underpriced, though well priced. Clearly, the seller will be thinking that perhaps he should've asked for a little more - then again, the right price means that cash flows and it can be re-invested.

I'd say that's a good price.

The angles in a couple of the photos make the styling appear almost unrecognisable, which is odd.

I shake my head when I read on the forum someone pontificating about buying a car “got to check with the mrs first” & “it missed its third service point by 1500 miles” - if it’s the right price and you wanted one; go buy it!

I was on holiday in France when mine popped up on AT at 00:01 on my birthday. As it was a Sunday, I called the dealer from a chateau garden when they opened at 12 noon and put down a deposit in the same call. The delay in delivery was only because I wasn't in the country!

I'm indebted to Biglips who wanted to buy my 211 and brought this one to my attention. I'd grown dispirited trying to track down a decently-specced 350 petrol and had actually turned my back on Autotrader in pure frustration. BL gave me a kick up the **** and the rest is history.

He's now sold the 211 and I suspect misses a large barge!

It's a case of 'find me another!' and with 24k and FMBSH, one cannot really go wrong, other than issues that may arise from a lack of use, possibly battery related.

Yes, battery replacement may be needed! Though having said that, mine has the original in still, and I’m not very kind to it (frequently leaving it parked for 3 weeks at a time) and it seems to cope. I wondered if this would be the year the battery gave up, so at the start of lockdown I got a CTEK. I connected it after the car had been left for a month and it only took a couple of hours to bring it back to full charge, so I reckon it must have been holding up quite well.

I changed mine last year and was surpised to find it was the original one.

My 211 E500 used to much through them pretty quickly.....

The battery's on my CTEK as we speak. The owner had replaced the battery a while ago, foolish boy, but I simply make a point of keeping batteries properly conditioned, and it must be a couple of decades since I replaced a battery - and my cars are all normally a decade old.

Do you keep it in a garage?

I wouldn't mind getting one for mine but I'd have to be able to do it on the drive and close the bonnet over the cables.

It's not a problem to run the cable under the bonnet. Personally, I'd leave the bonnet slightly ajar, but there shouldn't be a problem in running the cable through the gap

Excellent - might get one. It's much smaller than I'd imagined.
But now I've seen those pictures I'm going to have to clean my engine bay.......

I have a number of friends suffering with Carownervirus: owning half a dozen to a dozen cars.
To a man, they all use CTEK's to keep batteries in good condition.

I imagine that this vehicle lived outdoors; the assumption being based on the bleached woodwork.

Not on a personal basis, though he goes by the same handle on PH and participates in the barge £1-£5k thread, which is the place to be for us saddos. You and Mike don't qualify now!
