Have You Seen Any Interesting Cars On The Road Lately?

Had a terrific day out in Argyll and decided to visit the Loch Fyne Oyster Bar for lunch. Apart from the usual cluster of camper vans and caravan towing Range Rovers, Porsches and Volvos I was slightly stunned to spot a red Lamborghini Urus In the car park.

So although I’m unlikely to ever to own one I must admit it looked pretty darn cool and a whole lot more “user friendly” than other of Sant’ Agata’s products.

I went to wash my car at the local jetwash and got talking to the guy ahead of me who was cleaning his 85 911. Then his mate rocked up in his E30 Bimmer and some other bloke in an XKR.

We ended up having a mini car meet and the 911 bloke insisted I take his car for a drive. It was a black widebody targa. Lovely old thing, grunty flat 6 and surprisingly rigid. Also surprising were the brakes - they needed a proper shove - and the low-geared unassisted steering. But that's the 80's for you.

Anyway, what a great way to kick off a Sunday :) Not this one but identical.

I looked up the reg of the Carrera I randomly got to drive on Sunday and it turns out that it's well known and worth a lot. It sold in 2017 for £69k and I think the guy I met bought it after that - presumably for more, the way the market is going.

I'm learning about early 911's and this one had the 915 gearbox. It was a little vague & notchy at times - not unlike changing gear in an 80's Alfetta. The G50 gearbox arrived a couple of years later. But I can totally see the appeal of smoking around in one of these.

Anyway, here are a couple more pics. Glorious.

Stunning car.
The Turbo Targas were not that popular tbh in fact I’ve never seen one. The Targas were the least popular variant of the 911.

It's got the Turbo body, wheels, brakes & suspension but the standard 3.2 n/a engine & the 5 speed which came with it at the time (the Turbo only had 4).

God, I've turned into a 911 nerd.

It did make quite an impression, though!

I quite liked the Targa layout. I feel strangely exposed in full convertibles so liked the fact that, although there was plenty of sky overhead, there was still a structure behind me and over my head.

I'd happily settle for a marine blue narrow body with a sunroof, G50 box and pale grey leather inserts.

I presume it’s a V12 Ferrari. 9A9B0950-E53F-43A4-9AC6-A754BCEA8DAE.jpeg
