Have You Seen Any Interesting Cars On The Road Lately?

Hmm… I hope so. Altho, in my area a few have actually disappeared. Two Saabs and an old Cherokee.

But I also just think it’s london and there’s a lot of people with excess cash! I know off the top of my head about 10 classics within a 15 mins walk.

There’s 5 on my street alone!
Lots of classics up North too! Locally we have a Panther Rio (38 ever made), 190e 2.5-16 Evolution 1, Metro 6R4 and a Ford RS200.

Had to Google Panther Rio......wish I hadn't.....not pretty is it! According to Wiki its basically a Triumph Dolomite in a posh frock!!

I love classics.....fully fledged member of SADCASE and owned a few 70s cars over the years......its just that particular car is uglier than the car its based on and was clearly designed with Volvos of the same age in mine......and in a design studio with absolutely nothing curved to draw around!!! Cars are very much personal taste......but I'd far rather have a normal Dolly Sprint.....there is a white one not far from me.....but unfortunately its a daily and largely composed of rust!!!

.....and you can get those in yellow too!!

I would suggest that's just about impossible......someones classic is someone else's old and undesirable car.

The dictionary does not help!!! :)

classic car
noun [ C ]

UK

/ˌklæs.ɪk ˈkɑːr/ US

/ˌklæs.ɪk ˈkɑːr/
an older type of car, usually one that is no longer produced and that people like to own because it looks very stylish or has special features:

Comparing a Panther Rio to a period Volvo is a new one. Which model? Choosing to call any 70's car ugly is a puzzle as well considering the state of most moderns trundling around nowadays. But as you say each to their own.

I’d like to know what special features they have!
Are all classics bond cars? 😂

I had a Dolomite 1850 HL, which was a lovely car (red with black vinyl roof). I did have to fibreglass the boot floor though

As a kid in the '70s I lived about 50 yds from the lock-up in Surrey (Crutchfield Lane, Walton-on-Thames) where the original Panther company was based. I used to walk past on the way to/from school and saw the cars being built - don't recall ever seeing a Rio though!

Opening quarter lights is one common special feature of classics, up to the 70's anyway. A fantastic feature that functions as the best fresh air vent known to man and for the smokers an ashtray that never needs emptying. :p

Wonder why these were gotten rid of ?
Or a hassle to upkeep?
Expensive to manufacture. The quarterlight pictured above is from a BMW 2002 like the blue one you photographed. Had 3 of those cars and never had any issues with the quarterlight working. Sold a number of the BMW quarter light mechanisms years ago to the Aston Workshop in county Durham. I assume the BMW mechanisms work on old Aston Martins as well.

There’s certain irony in that statement.
