Have You Seen Any Interesting Cars On The Road Lately?

I wouldn’t want to get stuck behind one. Progress is fairly glacial, I’d imagine..

That got me wondering about performance, and MB's own site has an answer:

Up to 1970 the Hanomag-Henschel light vans could be ordered with either an English-made Austin carburetor engine or a 2.0 L, 50-hp diesel engine from Daimler-Benz. January 1972 saw the arrival of a considerably more powerful 2.2 L, 60-hp diesel engine, and in January 1973, the light van was given a chassis with a simplified, less complex construction.

So this one has a dizzying 60-hp at its disposal, 0-60mph is probably not an applicable metric 😞

A friend of mine used to have a Bedford CF camper with an asthmatic diesel engine (Perkins I believe). It could barely pull itself along on the flat, and hills required getting out and pushing. I think the top speed was about 55, with earplugs in. He used to take great delight in taking it down the A303 to Devon in holiday season on his stupid surfing trips, and watching the traffic build up behind him. Fortunately he’s moved to Wales now, and it serves them right.

Why does it serve us right?
C’mon, don’t have a cow. It’s supposed to be light-hearted. And anyway, it’s your gain as a) he’s a bloody nice bloke and b) he doesn’t have that damn campervan anymore so he won’t be clogging up your roads.

These people get away with almost anything. They are protected by the establishment and their friends in high places.
