It's a (well was anyway) ships totally enclosed lifeboat (its not a freefall lifeboat as it has release gear fur use with lowering by wires) The old style open lifeboats, i.e. no top on them where phased out years ago although there might still be a few around on older ships - I'll take my anorak off now.........

You could only get a series 1 RS Turbo in white(MK3 Escort)
Series2 RS Turbos came in white,black,red,and grey at least(Mk4 Escort).
The one in the picture is a Mk2 RS Turbo

Only had 1 Ford in my life, a Sierra when the eldest was born, not a Ford fan,just an 80s child.

Air-cooled VWs is my thing, I was driving 250 quid campers while everyone else was driving hot hatches.
 
My mates had them all, rs turbos, rs1600i, xr2/3, astra gte/16v etc etc, then moved on to cosworths, never floated my boat.

Update; I won't be getting the VIN any time soon as it was nicked on Thursday night. Keyless entry had been disabled as a precaution but they could still steal it.

I did manage to get the full story; my mate's boss had bought it at huge discount from new when it was 6 months old wanted a newer one. As his old one was only worth £26k book (!) he just offered it to my mate who has happy enough with the arrangement.

So now he's got £26k payout coming his way and will probably get into some more normal/less nickable and 4 door. He asked mf for suggestions and I noticed over the weekend that Merc now do a petol hybrid E Class - the 350e - so have suggested one of them.
 
That was my first four years of motoring. Travelled all over the UK, and even to Paris, in my trusty Renault Dauphine.
