Have You Seen Any Interesting Cars On The Road Lately?

Robert…….. was there any particular reason for the visit?
Anything you would like to let us know?

You seem to be showing a little bit of interest in the brand of late.

Exhibit 2
Things are getting serious when a post starts off with 'Robert'.
👀 errrrr…. 😁
If B-Dazz is getting Mc'd up then he'll surely want/need/lust after my Vito on the odd day. I'm happy to slum it in whatever colour McLaren he chooses because I'm nice like that.

The colour of the 2015 MP4-30 would be perfect, which at the time was described as Graphite, and would be a close match for “our” Vito. Sartre Grey is too light but still looks jolly nice:

You bad man showing me that. Because now you got me thinking painted callipers on the Vito. 🙄

Nice....sold a few of those new back in the day....that's the Limited Edition GT11 version.....but it interestingly (to me at least!) it has the wrong (Scirocco Scala Ltd Ed) wheels on it ...As stock they had steelies......like this one!!

I think I prefer the wheels it has! They look the nicest. It does have some duck tape on the front headlight (can’t see in pic), but it is proper lush.

Unfortunately I wasn’t allowed to take photos due to client confidentiality but this morning I visited Jim Stokes Workshops for a tour. Words cannot describe this place. They have an open day in the summer, worth looking out for. Their reputation is really with pre-war Alfas but not exclusively. They had a 300sl Gullwing in the shop. The engineering I still can’t quite believe. For example they manufacture new Alfa 8c engines with supercharger. Yours for £185k plus vat. Or handmaking a body for an Alfa 3000 cm. Exquisite. They’ve spent three years developing and building a couple of miller/offenhauser engines for an Indianapolis racer. Owned by Mr DuPont (apparently he’s going to paint it himself understandably). Their website or Facebook page gives an idea.

Hi , what skills are required to produce quality like this , could be better than when the car was new.
When in the engine manufacturing section looking at one of their crated Alfa 8C engines I asked Jim if they try to improve on the original tolerances for example. He said “…we occasionally make a tweak, but that engine won Le Mans 4 times so there isnt anything wrong with it”. A good point, well made I thought!

I wonder how many £185,000 engines they build and sell annually.

I’m not sure of total numbers but they were building 4 Alfa engines when I was there. A mix of the 6C and 8c. The 6 was I think £165k plus vat. Then they had a very early Aston engine (the technician was cursing the poor casting work, they were using the original block for this one, but it was wonky). Then two miller/offenhauser engines that they have been making for three years! We heard one of them run on their fancy dyno. They also had a couple of engines ready to go to customers. So really a surprising amount I thought. I assume the gearboxes they make are probably similar. These were all the completely new engines (apart from the Aston) but they were also working on others as part of their restoration work. BRM H16 anyone? They also have a customer who wanted an Alfa Flat 12 installed in his Alfa 3000cm. This was I think only ever a rumoured combination in period but he wanted to see it done!

Thanks. It’s sounds like a fascinating place.
