The UK Politics & Brexit Thread

Which is a surprise given his upstanding character 🙄
So the deceased man’s team didn’t want certain details released so on the same subject, why didn’t the officers team ask for his name to be withheld??

I’m not too sure about these super-injunctions but the footballers and media wallies seem to use them when they want to.

Just to keep things in perspective because, despite the efforts of those (BLM, etc.) who wish to propagate the idea that things are like they are in America and that our police are trigger-happy racial bigots, able to kill with impunity, there really isn't any evidence to support that.

Since 2010, British police have shot dead 30 people. In two consecutive years, 2012-13 and 2013-14, not a single person was fatally shot by police in the UK. In 2022-23, it was three while in 2023-24, it was two.
There is also little evidence to suggest police in the USA are trigger happy racial bigots. The vast majority of instances of the use of deadly force by US police is against those who are armed in one way or another (gun, knife, vehicle etc.)

That doesn’t suit the narrative of some though does it?

Clearly weren't trying hard enough some years then!

Joking apart, that is a remarkably low figure given the total population. Do you have comparable data for other European countries?
Here are some alarming world figures

Spot on. The fact that the majority of instances of police use of deadly force in the USA is against white people also does not suit the false narrative.
I apologise. I said that you were wrong. But strictly speaking you’re right in that more white people than black are killed by the police in the USA. However, this ignores the fact that the white population is five times that of the black.

Fascinating demonstration by Statista of the use of statistics to support a narrative. When what we are talking about here is case by case instances of the use of deadly force by US police. Case by case was it racially motivated? Or was it as simple as you point a weapon at a cop you will be shot. That is a known. One unknown is how many of these US deadly force cases are suicide by cop.

Nice to see Bell Ribeiro-addy throwing petrol on the situation today saying the police should have tried to arrest him...WTF did she think they were doing??

If I was the armed police I'd refuse to protect HoP as it wasn't necessary; MPs just need to try and talk to terrorists (of any ethnic/religious persuasion) nicely.

The new government keeps telling us that the budget is good for 'working people'.

Seems that Labour isn't the party of the working people as such.... it's the party of the Unions. Everyone else then go and eff themselves.
This Labour government most certainly isn;t the party for pensioners is it?
Take money from the very group that hasn't got the means to earn any more. And not raising the threshold for paying income tax, next years triple lock pay award will be cut too. Despicable.
I've never known a government so against pensioners
Labour............tough on crime? Not a chance. Inmates must be rolling on the floor laughing at this lot.
Has anyone seen a Labour plan to build more prisons?

Labour........... "We'll smash the gangs". No you won't, you actively encourage illegal immigration.

Labour 100 days in and a total failure, and that's before the budget. The budget that is going to tax us more than ever before despite a manifesto that proclaimed the opposite.

When will Labour actually disclose where this £22b "black hole" in the economy lies? Until then, we only have their word for it and we know what that is worth.

Doesn't mention letting out prisoners after only 40% of the sentence served.
Tough on crime?
