The UK Politics & Brexit Thread

The statement: "those that don't go to work and derive their income from investments" Encompasses all Retired Folk that either Paid Extra into the State Pension, or had the stupid Gumption to save into a Private Pension, the Private Pension was an Investment and I for one am now using it as Income!  :doh:

Put me down for the Revolution Draft!

Of course he's right, we should absolutely discourage people from investing in funds that invest in companies, that then use the money to expand their operations and create jobs. What were we thinking? Stagnation is Bliss (Labour's new motto?).

This morning we a had a labour spokesmen telling the BBC it included anyone who goes to work as opposed to those that don't go to work and derive their income from investments.
This (false) argument hinges on the classic socialist view of "unearned income" being somehow wrong, bad, or tainted.

The reality is that "unearned income" is the result of work done in the past - by yourself or another who gifted you the source of the "unearned income" - that resulted in you creating, purchasing, or being gifted an asset that provides an income at a later date. So if, for example, you built a boat that you then hired out the revenue received from those hiring it would be unearned income. It's exactly the same principle if you choose to purchase investments from your "earned income" (in other words, the remuneration for your labour today), and you then take income from those investments in the future.

Starmer & Co. have tied themselves in a knot because they rely on the false premise that if you live on an income today from your past labours that makes you somehow less worthy than someone who lives on the income from their labours today.

" a working man..." is wide open to interpretation and change as it suits the three Musketeers clowns, namely Starmer/Reeves/Rayner, . A big apology to the genuine clowns' who are "working" and who will be hit hard if they dare to aspire to secure their own and their loved one's financial security.

Younger people should take note, go for social housing, work and then take 5 holidays a year, get a nice car/s on lease and spend, spend spend - if you save/invest, the envious will take it all away from you,

I wonder who they will tax for the income gained from AI in the future as nobody has actually worked 😇

I'm sure the very strong socialists can find some uranium mines that could be improved with some manual labour. All those who live on unearned income, or liked a racy tiktok post.

Spot the difference:

Keir Starmer, a few weeks ago: "We will not increase the taxes that working people pay."

Rachel Reeves, today: 'I'm making the choice to not increase the key taxes that working people pay.'

🔑 ;)

She's making the choice???? How about honouring your election pledge rather than making the choice......

Am I a working man?

Got a gaff in Greece and 2 renters here but our home is rented. I’m still up at 6 and on a roof by 8 working my t**s off laying big heavy lead 6 days a week. 57 years old.

These were achieved by being a working man and I don’t think I can retire for many years yet.

And I always seem to be skint. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Ow's about our MP's deciding on something meaningful.
It would go down in 'istry, it would be remembered oo did it.
It would save loads o' man and woman hours each year.
There would be less confusion, not traditionally a Gov't strongpoint admittedly.
We could be seen as leading the way for Europe and the Americas and Australasia to follow.
Wales and Scotland can please 'emselves.

Scrap this changing clocks twice a year malarky.

The spirit of Diane Abbott is alive and well in the Labour party:

Well that looked promising, sets my mind at rest that this Government have the "Best of the Crop" Running their Departments!   :wallbash:

PS: Where do they get these Effing Idiots from? There must be somewhere Producing them at Will! ;)

What's the problem with defining a working man or woman? Obviously it's anyone who's a member of a union affiliated to the TUC.
I’ve been saying this privately for a while. If all working people belonged to a Union, Labour would be in power for ever.
Method in madness.

If you fancy having a laugh you should come onto a large construction site where UNITE (apparently the union for construction workers) are there trying to recruit members.

Skanska use UNITE convenors to do their site inductions and they really think they’re a cut above everyone else. Jumped up Hitlers.

The biggest lie, sorry issue, is the election manifesto saying everything has been costed.
That being so why weren’t we told that the pants would be taxed off certain sections of society to achieve these costings?

Because they only invented discovered the £22bn 'black hole' during a campaign meeting 3 months before the elections ;)

Such a proposal is coming up for debate in Spain’s parliament.
