2010 National GTG questions and answers thread

Lets hope that the Brunstrom chap isn't a member here or there'll be a roadblock , Cannonball Run style ....

Maybe in the interest of road safety and environmental awareness we should have a "highest MPG from start" contest on arrival to the site...

mind you, my carbon footprint will be huge.

So I should leave the small petrol car at home and bring the big diesel instead?

A question for the comittee:

Are there toilet facilities on site?

The bad news is that there are many speed cameras on the A5.
The good news is that not all of them work all of the time.
The bad news is that you do not know which of them are working.
The good news is that there are some wonderful roads to drive in the area.

I think somebody should visit the area on the Friday and decomission all roadside cameras.

The last time I went to Snowdonia was for lunch in May this year - it was an 11hr 44 minute trip of 644 miles at an average of 57mph and 28.9mpg, and not one ticket.

I'm just hoping I get a long weekend off work for the meet, but if I only have the Sunday then I shall pop up for lunch, coffee and a chat.

What sort of numbers are needed for this to go ahead? Not fishing about costs, just interested to know how big it needs to be to go ahead?

we've based our calculations guesstimates on approximately 100 people buying tickets (obviously some cars will have two people in) so a nice 'safe' number would be about 70 cars.

Once we get over 50 people attending which on a club this size should be no problem we are in the clear

We are hoping for somewhere between 100 & 150 (maybe slightly more) people buying tickets

What about an anonymous poll Andy simply asking people if they are LIKELY to attend (yes or no). Will at least give you some starting figures (close enough for Government work )

Just an idea

Haven't been to Wales for years, always wanted to go and this will give me the boot up the bum to go and do some proper driving (may make a holiday of it).

It isnt that handy, but so what, 3 extra hours driving time to go somewhere decent, interesting rather than a soulless car park is a small price to pay.

We are car enthusiasts, Wales has good driving roads, its perfect for a meet. Well done to the comittee for thinking outside the box and for an inspired choice.

How do I put my name down. If going with a mate will camp, if going solo will hotel it.

Well I'd like to kick things off and start the ball rolling by signing up.

What is the paypal address?

better give Koolvin a poke to ask him for the details.

I suppose we can accept payment now and release the tickets as soon as they are ready which will take us a few more days

Bear with us until tomorrow lunchtime whilst we finalise a few more details we need to include on the ticket sales

An observation...

I used to run the Astra Mk2 Owners Club until August last year and was arranging a number of events each year, all centred on shows. The main event of the year was the VBOA National Rally at Billing Aquadrome near Northampton. The best part of that was that all the VBOA affiliated Vauxhall clubs come together for that weekend and make a huge show that runs from the Friday afternoon until the Sunday evening (or for the die hards like me, Monday morning).

The location was generally accepted to favour Southerners, but nonetheless lots of people made it down from all over Scotland as far North as Aberdeen. Great for me as I could get there with the caravan in a little over a couple of hours or so.

Travelling a long way to any meet / show / event was something that put off many members, but the solution is pretty simple really. We arranged convoys that would stop at various points along the route from each main area and these would grow as people joined. Therefore there's already some 'club' activity, tyre kicking and introductions before everyone arrives. That works well for people coming from afar, locals just turn up on site.

For me, it's great not to be doing the organising. While I did enjoy it, I lost so many evenings in the run up to each event handling questions, bookings and arrangements that by the time I got there and spent the whole weekend running round keeping it together. Sunday night came round and that was the first chance to sit down. Good on you guys for doing the organising. I can't commit yet and the only GTG I've been to with you guys was the one at Jimmy's, which was excellent. :)

Ian.

Ian, I attended Billing in '07/'08 and I can say both times were brilliant. The only reason I couldn't go this year was the lack of car. :(

Anyway travellers, how about digging out the map and looking at all the ways you could get there. I know mine wont have any motorways ;)*

*Well for as far as I can manage :o

One of the most sensible things I've read about it.

Agreed it's a good idea and something that happens with many other marques. It tends to9 be something that evolves rather than being organised (if that makes sense) but we'll try and arrange a list of meeting points en route from various parts of the country if that's what folks want
